I was at gryhound. They were union (atu local 1700).

They had a seniority based bidding system.

In Dallas you could be on the extra board for 18 yrs before you had seniority to hold a run.

In other places you could get a good paying run right away.

See if he has enough seniority to hold a run in a different city.

Forget all this nonsense just buy your own truck and trailer and become. owner operator. I've been doing it for 12 years. I love I take home 80 grand a year I'm home every weekend. And tax deductions are great.

Has he even tried to bid in?
Some people like where they are at and don't really want to change positions.

We did have our own business for a long time but don't want the liability of it anymore. Yes, we both miss the freedom badly.

He did have a dock bid last year which was great. He dosnt often qualify for bids as he is the second from the bottom. He had one this year but got bumped as the senior guy came back from being sick and took it. If he got a bid, he would stay. But this kind of life is old after 3 years. The inconsistency is what is killing us. I am sure there has to be other jobs that aren't on call so much. He is afraid to move as he would have to go to the bottom again ; but he is second from bottom here so I don't see much difference. Surely being the bottom but getting much regular hours would be better than waiting for the call daily ; some days he gets it, others he dosnt.

At least they get $10 an hour for waiting. We get nothing.

He has two hours notice. Yes, the pay is ok and the insurance is good.
