Did you know that in Cali, a student driver is required 56 hours of training before they can even test for their class 'C'?......

Hmmmm...now I think we're justified in our concern for mexican drivers up here....:biggrin_2552:

Most of those people come here with a college degree in hand....They aren't standing around the Home Despots or the 7/11's harassing women and pizzing in the corners.......

40 hours? 56 hours? Still not enough in my opinion. However, with the 56 hours California requires, the rookie can still get a job with the mega carriers and be a trainer himself within 6 months or less.

Most of the major Mexican carriers want at least 3-5 years experience before they will consider a driver for employment

I don't think the Kiwis, Aussies, and drivers from the former eastern bloc countries come here with college degrees in hand to drive trucks.

Once again, you're trying to bring the immigration debate into a conversation where it doesn't belong.

And just when I thought you and I were making progress.

I have seen many a Russian driver up here..

I have yet to see a Zealander or an Ozzie drive trucks here.......

Most of the Zealanders and Ozzies I have met here were engineers or, college professors or, other professionals....

The differences with Mexican immigrants....they tend to be from the lower economic strata and lower ranks of education.....Most crossed illegally....

Everyone else is separated by oceans...Mexicans are separated by a fence or mountains......Making it easier for them to Cross Illegally....

Everyone else has two ways to get here.....
By plane or by ship.....Both forms of transport require clearing through customs.....

Customs is non-existent in the hinterlands where illegals tend to Cross Illegally...

Not being "racist" (Mexican isn't a race btw)...just stating facts......

But this thread has nothing to do with immigration, legal or illegal. The Mexican truckers crossing the border now and during the cross border program crossed legally and cleared Customs each and every time.

Several years ago, there was a couple of trucking companies in Arkansas who imported the kiwiS and aussies (Continental Express was one). There were other companies that specialized in importing these guys and "leasing" them out to companies in Arkansas. A number of people were indicted eventually.

I spent a couple of days last week in Otay Mesa Pilot. What was most disconcerting was the number of ######## coming in and out, driving trucks no self respecting Mexican would drive. Throw in a several european drivers (my assumption based on accent) who couldn't speak English worth a ####, and the Mexicans really aren't a problem.

And no one accused you of being racist. I'll give you that to your credit

" sale" I cant thank you enough chief, I´ll look into all of it, and its not amazing to me, those are ignorant north american assumptions, like always critizing what they dont know or understand. I would rather live anywhere else, but the US (coming from an ex US Army Infantryman), but I´ll leave it at that so I dont attract ignorant comments, Thanks alot again

I am not aware of any grants offered by Transportes Monro although I am familiear with the company in Nuevo Laredo.

As for tranny's, my Pete 379 has a 12 speed Meritor ZF autoshift which I love. It's great in all situations coupled to a C-15 Cat (475)

Not at all. Same rules we have here they have in Mexico. If there were Americans willing to do the jobs the Mexicans have here now, Americans would have them.

And don't use the tired wore out argument that Mexican depress wages. The employers pay what they think the work is worth and it's up to prospective employees to accept the wage or look elsewhere.

But when they can sit home on their #####, collect unemployment and other gimme's that are close to what they would make working a 40 hour week, where's the incentive to get off their butts?
