I had same type of problem as the O/P described. I couldn't find it, so I kept driving it. After a couple months where the input shaft goes it to the power divider it started to leak oil right behind the yoke.
Took it to the shop to have a new seal put in and was told that the bearing on the input shaft was bad.

I had the power divider rebuilt and no more noise.

    dztruck and Marsh92 Thank this.

It was 4500 CDN Last year. I could have done just that front bearing but it had over a million miles so I did the complete rebuild.

and this power divider issue would cause me to have a weird grinding noise mostly on flat ground and on downhill grades over 60mph? it happens for 2 to 5 seconds and stops and just keeps repeating..

That's the exact way mine was acting

Not saying 100% yours is the power divider . I had every U joint and stuff checked and couldn't find anything.
So I just kept running it. Until it became more apparent. Drive line noises could be many things and untill you pull something down to look at it it's hard to find sometimes.
