I’d have the same record , IF, I had gotten caught .

I outran the state troopers a few times , but only attempted because I knew the rural Appalachian backroads and the troopers didn’t .

I knew every curve and hill and driveway and they didn’t .

And if you can see them in your mirror , you ain’t gonna outrun em .

Id be speeding on a two lane and meet them , see them hit the brakes , and I’d hit the gas and since it was my home turf I knew which driveway that was gonna be hidden by the which hill or curve to turn off into etc

the county sheriffs dept had the sheriff and one deputy .
Literally like Barney and Andy .
And they didn’t have radar .

and they wouldn’t chase you on your dirt bike either unless you were doing a wheelie on the wrong side of the road or something super stupid .

if you were obeying the traffic laws but just were too young to have a drivers license and had no insurance and no lights , and no license plate etc , the sheriff or deputy would just wave and keep going .

But we knew the state patrol would chase dirt bikes that wernt street legal , but it was easy to lose em , just hit the first woods you came to , you just better be careful and not crash .

Best of luck with the kid ,
    Someplace will hire him .

But I’m surprised a first time offender got convicted of a felony , I guess his lawyer wasn’t that good ?

If one of my kids committed a felony they’d have their pictures on a milk carton after I got done with them :)

Actually, there are quite a few felons on here. And lot of people who just narrowly avoided being felons, too. If everyone here that pleaded down to a misdemeanor had been convicted of the original felony they'd probably have to have their own forum. ;)

I have watched YouTube videos where the criminal drives into a barn and hides in an out building. After high speed chase. Dogs are brought out to get him to surrender.

I have watched the opposite where a high school senior gets 6 seconds to provide proof of insurance. Doesn't. Gets body slammed out of car and charge with resisting and assault on an officer. Happened to be recorded by business camera.

I'm skeptical of criminal convictions, since I have seen where cops lie.

I have seen how poorly people treat cops on camera so I feel bad for what they have to put up with.

There's many ex-convicts and felons on this forum. No big deal, they got their life together and doing fine now with a career in trucking.

    I would have "felon" hard times...if I hadn't become a trucker.

    Sorry -- couldn't resist. :p :D :)

I have given this more thought, and I do apologize for assumptions, seems our country is run on them today, and being a father myself, I would do anything for them too. This kind splits hairs however, it's like a giant middle finger to those of us that did life by the rules. I'm not saying your son would make a bad driver, in fact, drug testing alone eliminated more good drivers I care to admit, but years ago, you could talk to the boss, who may not have had such a rosy record themselves, and was based more on your ability to drive a truck. Today, that's not the case. Employers go to a data base, your son comes up as a red flag, NOBODY is going to hire him. That's the reality of the situation. Many younger folks want instant gratification, and don't have the "in due time" you speak of. BTW,, I'm retired, and make squat, but I still live within my means. I'm afraid your boy is in for an uphill fight.
