Well the good news is that most mega-carriers probably won't touch you! This is good news because now you will be forced to go with a smaller company increasing your chances of success astronomically! Most newbies usually just go with one of the top 5 mega-carriers because they don't know any better and they make it so easy to get hired on. So now you will have to put forth a little more effort in finding a company that is going to take you.

Most companies are going to look at your reckless conviction with almost the same weight as a DUI. 3-5 years is going to be the length of time in which you will have to deal with due to the ticket or charge. Its not necessarily a company policy, its more of a insurance thing.

I would recommend that you hold off signing up for school until you have talked to quite a few companies and have gotten a pretty good idea of who will hire you. Don't just call 2-3 companies and base your decision on that. Truck driving school isn't cheap so you want to make sure you will be able to get a job once you finish school. Also there is a short window of time once you graduate to choose a company and get to orientation. Anything more than 2-3 weeks of non-driving after school and companies are going to make you take an expensive refresher course. Once you graduate you are by no means a professional truck driver. These schools help you obtain your license and prepare you to go with a trainer, no more no less! Chances are you will learn more on day one with your trainer in the real world then you did the whole three weeks of CDL school!

You may want to check Craigslist. I often see some really good gigs posted on there. Also here is another site that will help you find the smaller companies:

    Good luck man...

Reckless the same as dui dont think so there are many categories of reckless with every state having a different definition, when presented with your ticket it surely says exactly what he did to recieve that ticket ie. (Driving to fast for the conditions) that in itself when presented to the recruiter could rectify the problem with you explaination to them. It is not a cut and dry hire no hire, every company has adjustable rules.

Btw most large companies are self insured so the theory of there insurance wont cover is a misnomer.

I'm retired Navy and I kind of know what you're going through. If you're dead set about getting out then chompi has the best advice you can get. But if you are in another place I would stay Navy. I was told by an old salt that you stay in until you wake up and do not want to go to work. Then it's time to get out. It took me 20 years but I was ready to get out and make the "Big Bucks". I did that but it wasn't long before I regretted that I didn't do another10. I'd have more money and still make the "Big Bucks".It's so much easier in the trucking industry when you already have benefits and some pay to help when time gets tough. But that's me.

You have two choices. Either you find a company that will give you a job BEFORE you spend money for a CDL or you wait until time passes so the companies will consider you. There are some companies that will give you a shot but you have to seek them out. You're in a large city so you have an advantage where you can get and out and look. Not only should you call the companies but you should also go out and talk to as many companies as you can. If you do that, do it now so you'll know if you stand a chance. You'll have have to do your homework. Just remember the more you put into this job the more you get out. It's not as easy as the commercials and you'll be lucky to gross 35k the first year. That's about the adverage. PM me if you like with any questions. I'll do my best to help.

I know you don't think so, however what the companies think is a different story and most of them will not hire you with a reckless for a period of up to 5 years. The same goes for a DUI. So you may want to rethink that theory.

Yes some companies are self insured however the misnomer is that they will insure someone with a current reckless driving offense on their record.

I see you have 22 years experience, was it a long time ago? You may want to do some calling around and check some of the mega-carriers current policies.

I drive today and have had many different types of tickets so I do know where he is coming from. I change jobs more than some people change their drawers. Big companies small companies and everything in between you can talk your way Into just about anything. You speak like your a recruiter chompi but you know your not, if you really believe what you say you better stay outta the office cause no one would ever qualify to drive in your company. It's a case by case examination of each driver that applies if you dont believe me I will give you the names and numbers of my previous 14 companies I have worked for...
