Here's a suggestion for you. Apply at CFI, see if they will hire you (they limit themselves to certian schools, or did).
If you can get hired there. You WILL make enough money during training to justify the effort.
They have a set amount they pay while attending Crowder College (about 7-14 days). This is a much more advanced level of training for new hires. They provide you room and board while there, and $300 a week...I believe that's correct.
Then you start earning .26 a mile while on the truck with a trainer for about 3 weeks, then .28 a mile when you go solo. You should be at .35 a mile by the end of your first year.
The above pay scales may have changed since I left. It's been a year. But give them a call.

Thank you dan. I have one other question. what do they allow you to put in your truck. Do they allow small refrigerators? How about small TV's. What about their idling policy and do they have other means of keeping the cab warm and cool?
-
Also dan why did you leave CFI? If you don't mind my asking. Were you not getting enough miles? How often do you get long runs from like the midwest to the west coast?
-
As far as I know, they still allow the use of an invertor. They will sell you one, and install it. Buy the one they sell. If something happens, they "honor" the warranty for the first year or so. It's large enough for TV, fridge, microwave, and a lot more
They use bunk heaters for heat during the winter. They never had any issues with idling. That may have changed with fuel prices.
Why I left....

Thanks!! What company do you drive for now? If you don't mind me asking. Also, I checked out their website, and it says that as a qualification you can't have had any suspensions for 5 years.
-
But I recommended them based on what I knew first hand, from last year.
I currently drive for Watkins & Shepard. No complaints that would amount to whiner status yet LOL. For more info on them, check the threads within this forum...search option. -
Thanks for the info dan. I am looking at Watkins & Shepard's website. They seem like a good company. And they have a training program. Do you know their hiring criteria?

Yea, I've been trying to get into school for going on 3 year's and I can't figure out why I keep getting turned down. No criminal record, clean driving record and plenty of work experiance to to get into a compnay that only requires 5 year's (instead of 10) but they still want to ##### because it's seasonal work. Well, I've been working for the same guy for the last 3 year's so I don't see what the problem is. If this doesn't go through with Driver Solutions then I give up. # year's of wasting gas, time, money on fax's, phone call's, etc etc etc and I'm still sitting in the same place with the same job working my ### off and nothing to show for it. Good luck to you good man. Hope you have better luck than I. If it weren't for bad luck, I would have any at all.

Good luck -
Well let's hope that we both end up having good luck.
