It's reassuring to know that there are other people in my situation. Good people who made minor previous mistakes. but I'm persistant and that usually pays off in the long run.

The hiring criteria is pretty straight forward.

You've had a a chance to read the site. Just give them a call, they'll tell you everything you need to know.

Their training program, is based on 2 models. If you go to school, then hire on. It's a 10 day program. Otherwise, it's a 30 day program.

Many of the students have posted within this forum as they document training and getting on the road as a solo. It's a rather lengthy thread too LOL.

Of course, I can't speak for their experience in training or as a driver. But, mine has been a good one. I can't comment about the training, as I hired on as an experienced driver.

I can tell you that I am aware of a few drivers that have had some issues. Some quit, some were fired. But those numbers are FAR lower than I've seen at any company I have driven for in the past.

Do you think a company will take me if I go out and get CDL training on my own?

So long as you get that training through an accredited school, you shouldn't have a problem.

If you just go get your CDL through your local license branch utilizing a truck from someone you know, then you might have a problem with the majority of interstate carriers out there.

I was told that I couldn't get hired until I had a valid license for a year. That was with PAM Transport and was back in 2002. All I can suggest is apply to a company or a school and see what happens. I can't answer your question with absolute certainty.

Well I've called and talked to Roehl, Swift, and Schneider.

    Roehl said 3 years.
    Swift said 1 year
    Schneider said 6 months.

All except Schneider said exactly what was on their website. I found the people very helpful in answering my questions. Oh yeah also the Swift recruiter said that they'd have to send me to school either in San Antonio or Phoenix. I live in Kentucky. Apparently their school in Memphis is shut down.
