Luckily I've got some things I have to do at home before I can think of trying to get into the industry so I'm looking at maybe spring time myself. I'm here on the site all the time and feel I'll be able to keep my eye on how things are looking. Hopefully things will start to look up over the next few months, but by the sounds of things, if the economy is going to turn around, it probably won't seriously start to look all that great for 12 to 18 months at least. But we're in the winter which sounds to always be a slow time in the middle of a real crappy state of economy so it sounds to really kinda suck for a lot of people. Of course the people doing well out there probably aren't taking the time to post about it on the internet.

I am currently half-way through my CDL schooling in North Carolina and hope to have both my CDL and a driving job by early January. We've already had several recruiters visit our school with many more scheduled over the remaining two weeks. All of these companies that are visiting are still hiring currently. A couple of the companies that have visited are reefer lines and one of those is actually running more miles now than at this time last year. I've applied to one or two companies whose recruiters don't visit our school. I expect to have a prehire from one of those companies this coming week, possibly from both. Another that doesn't regularly visit has scheduled an appointment to visit the school, just to interview myself and one other applicant. Companies can afford to be more discerning with the current economy, but if you're a strong applicant, they're still hiring. I'm looking primarily at reefer companies because people will still have to eat, regardless of the economy. Some reefer companies may be running fewer miles these days, but in general, they're still doing better than many others out there.
