Man involved in bridge crash says he was fired on

A man involved in a fiery crash on the Braga Bridge over the weekend says he crashed after someone in another vehicle fired a gun at him.

The Sunday morning crash forced the closure of two ramps to the mile-long bridge that spans the Taunton River between Fall River and Somerset and prompted state engineers to look for possible structural damage.

Forty-two-year-old Luis Cotto said a black Infiniti cut him off and slowed down. He says he flashed his high beams, both vehicles stopped and a confrontation ensued.

He says he was attacked, stumbled back to his truck, which was then fired on, causing the gas tank to explode.

Cotto says the fire was like hell and he escaped out the window.

State police had no comment on Cottos version of events.

It was announced on the radio last week that he made the whole story up and that he was actually DUI which led to the crash. Somebody will be paying for a new bridge.
