The official stance is NO inverters, not even the plug-in kind. However, everyone uses them, and the shop people turn a blind eye toward them. Still, I recommend putting them away if you are putting your truck in the shop.
fr8monkey ... actually there is mass confusion as to the "official" policy, particularly as to how it relates to o/o's. I got so many different stories when I wanted to install a 1500W inverter and no one could produce a document ... I finally just said screw , bought one and had an outside shop install it ... for the record KW in Phoenix - where Swift gets all their KWs - will install any inverter you want to "Swift" specs.
yes I remember that I could have gotten one installed at a shop if I wanted but I'm ok with the little one and I just hide it out of habit becoz of the confusion on the policy....a bit of old " company driver " paranoia
Lease trucks are allowed something like 1800W. That's not Swift's policy, that's IEL. A subtle difference to be sure, but it explains why nobody knows for certain.
IEl doesn't have policies ... you have a contract and there's nothing in the contract on inverters. Only whatever you bolt on the truck stays on the truck.
How many times a year does this subject come up. When I was a company driver I had a 3 plug 150W inverter plugged in. Never once was a word said. Swift does not expect you to not be allowed to charge your laptop, make a cup of coffee or charge your phone. When I became a O/O, had KW install a 1500W and not a word for about 1 year. Then was told that I was lucky, I grandfathered in because SWIFT said no more, then it was okay again, as long as put in by shop of dealer. It changes all the time, like converting to a 13 speed.
Swift will install a 300W inverter in your (company) truck, and tell you that ONLY your CPAP machine can be plugged into it.
