Looking for some advice on plugging tires..specifically trailer tires (van).

I’ve never ever plugged a tire in my long life but I’m so sick of discarding perfectly good tread tires.
Seems like every time I pick up a nail it’s on the outer edge of the tread and can’t be patched. Got one now that I started to pull while spraying the spot with soapy water..sure enough it’s a leaker! (Drove that nail right back in, lol)

Just wanting to know if plugs are a decent solution at least temporarily for a few months. Last time I replaced one it was $650+ for one of the Bridgestone 123’s low pro.

I don’t know if I just got bad luck with nails in tires or if I need to just stop looking at my tires 2-3 times a day :)

My gut is telling me it’s a waste of time to plug them so figured I’d ask the forum since I have zero experience with them.

If it’s on the tread I have loves do a repair. If it’s on the edge, I have Olson tire (Meekoff) retread it.

Plugs work fine. My Christmas gifts for customers were always plug kits from Fleetpride.

    Saved them tons of money.

I plugged 2 trailer tires on my old set, and wouldn't think twice of plugging a drive either.

Personally I used plugs so I could finish my load. Then I took it to a tire shop for a proper repair.
I know lots of guys that just used the plugs and never bothered getting it fixed in a shop and they didn’t seem to have any problems.

They do a in-house mold to fit my carcass for 180. Kind of like a mini tire factory at their shop. I trust their recap jobs, bout everyone else that runs multi axle trailers in Michigan.

Just patch it from the inside and move on…unless you’re one who doesn’t understand how to properly check tire pressure then the extra flexing will probably cause trouble

Probably plugged about 40 tires, never once had an issue. Just don’t get cheap plugs, also don’t forget rubber cement and a drill

Plugs are great!!! They will extend the life of your tires greatly. If they get plugged too many times, they can't be recapped, but I don't know how times it can be plugged before it has to be discarded. I got one plugged at the terminal earlier this week. I even got one plugged in my personal vehicle. I'm hoping that holds serve at least til next spring when I can replace those tires.
