Everybody. I mean everybody has a different idea what PM is. Best to find a mechanic/shop that can describe what he thinks a PM is and go from the there.

The manufactures, the quick lube places, the megas, all have different standards for a PM.

I've had ratchets, sockets, screwdrivers, flashlights, drill drivers and an entire impact socket set, all at various times left in my truck. The last time, it was his specialized 7-way pigtail tester, I found it by my seat. I put it in my toolbox under the bunk, few days later he was tearing the shop apart looking for it. I decided to hold onto it for one more day, then I left it on his desk in the middle of the night (good thing I know the office alarm code).

PM = Preventative Maintenance = Basic Stuff

PMCS = Preventative Maintenance Checks & Services = Little more Detailed than PM

Then we had Checks & Services (another level of detail)

While I was in the Marine Corps we have the Operators PM their vehicles while we the Mechanics took care of PMCS along with anything that wasn't absolutely brain dead monkey easy ( still checked over it just in case )
BTW I get my B-Service done every 30k which happens to be around 50-60days. Which includes the basic lube job that's only required by my warranty every 90days.

Big Don, should we bother adding in the down time? Maybe a little towing charge now and then? Or, how about this one - failed DOT inspections? Red tagged at a scale? I could go on....but people who shortcut safety and mechanical/electrical precautions probably aren't going to care, and those who do it right are already doing it right. It's fun, though, kind of refreshing my thoughts on trying my best to do it right and why it matters.

    Big Don Thanks this.
