Yeah obviously they've never encountered someone with an axe to grind. Kind of naive to think they are all there just simply protecting the public interest and that they always know the exact regulation. My equipment isn't junk and could pass any inspection unless I were to run across one of these wild card officers on a power trip. I don't go in with an attitude but like I said it doesn't matter if you do or don't sometimes. I just don't need the hassle. To be honest though I wish they would randomly do these inspection blitzes several times a year.

If they would put un-maintained non compliant trucks out of business would help clear out some competition. As far as e-logs go I have yet to meet a driver who uses them that won't give you loads of details on the particular ways in which they cheat on those. Some companies even edit them. It's subject to grey area human input the same as paper logs. Just an extra unnecessary expense and burden for small companies that make them less competitive with the megas. That's the driving force behind them. Not compliance and safety. Those are just smoke screens.

    Good post and True......

Here's the 1 and only truthful problem tho..

You(as a driver) Cannot change the outcome of a LEO,Inspector,Cops, Livelihood...no Matter how much of an ### they are.

BUT.....They Can change the Outcome of YOUR livelihood, No matter what kind of a day/attitude you have. Safe truck or not.

Its a 1 way street. Hence why people aren't flocking to drive a truck.

Sad affair that's been this way for a long time. Your opinion doesn't matter at the inspection, only discretion is the LEO....You cannot appeal their decision until AFTER the Fact. (legal representation etc) Just to rectify your what once was..Your clean record.

And I don't want to hear.."If your Legal, You have nothing to worry about"...

Doesn't work that way... 1 way street folks.

KIMG0295.JPG I thought it was a gimmick, it's real! They will actually check that your truck has triangles. Wtf!

Apparently even TA doesn't trust us to do our job; or they know nothing about our job and think this is a favor to us.

That's a mistake, Rollin, that's not what I think and it's not what I said. I acknowledged the bad apples. So what? We should profile the entire enforcement industry because of them? (maybe people do that about trucks and drivers, actually, which is why the professional ones get so little run?)

Maybe you're actually saying safety and compliance are over-rated, we don't even need to bother with the issue? Is that right?

i could tell you some things about eLogs myself, Rollin, but I'm not about to do it here. I get my 125K/year and I'm home 100 days, so I think I have a decent grip on working the QualCom Trail.

What about the legality of random search and seizure? Isn't that against the law everywhere else?

I do not believe I'm still naive at 72 years of age and experience. I just don't agree with going into a situation with an adversarial attitude: example. You know that CHP inspection station on I-80, betweenTruckee/Reno? I pulled in for my turn, the inspection officer found a couple of air lines to my drive axle brake chambers were rubbing and beginning to fray. The guy wrote it up, but a warning, not OOS. I thanked him, and spaced the hoses before I left the station..

Another officer in Texas, random stop, Level 3, found the charge level needle on my fire extinguisher had crept just past the green, into the red. Another warning, and "get a new one soon." I did, thanked him too.

It's not all about the power tripping or authoritarian law enforcement people, Rollin, I don't believe they're the majority. If we focus on that, we get an unnecessarily negative, adversarial picture. If that makes me naive, go ahead, call me names. Like I care? Whatever, best to you and everyone else trying to be safe and responsible, One thing sure, the "Blitz" is not going to cost me any miles.

Your an owner operator and know nothing about marketing and sales? They want to find stuff wrong on their "free" mid trip inspection so you'll have it fixed in their shop. This is sales 101 right here. Use fear and free gimmicks to get the customer in the door. The hardest part of brick and mortar business is to get the customer to walk in.

Why are we americans so obtuse to these Dog and pony Shows.."Smoke n mirror tactics and such??

Cause the majority of us are Weak,Pure Lazy,And want things done for us without much thought process.

I live day to day on the old adage.."If it's too good to be true,It generally is"

Marketing is 1 Field that will NEVER con me into anything..

Booking loads thru Fruit Borkers, Buying Homes, Buying Cars, Insurance whatever life entails...I Don't Fall for any garbage via sales n marketing. Then Again, To get through life in this day n age...You cannot put much trust in anyone.

This is good advice for the young and obtuse

I would like to see the DOT pass and get the class A licence before issuing any tickets.
Now I'm sure they can pass the pretrip inspection, but let's see about the backing up, and road test.

Just another example of everyone tell you how to truck, that hasn't trucked them self's.
