I paid for mine also. Insurance denied because BMI and neck size are NOT enough to indicate apnea. DOT doctor told me that ALL drivers lie about whether they snore so I had to take it. BTW, I did take it and it came back saying "No sign of Apnea". I was lucky that I did the home study and PRE-PAYED, SELF-PAY.
So my total cost was,
$100 to Family doctor (because my insurance required a Face to Face visit, after which they denied the testing)
$280 to Sleep Clinic (I saved $120 by paying before the test in full) normal price is $400
For a grand total of $380 to prove That I am NOT A LIAR!

How are companies getting away with this?

Nobody likes it, but they make you feel isolated about the issue and therefore unable to protest or fight it. -

I also feel that it has to do with the lack of knowledge of those getting tested. In my case I didn't mind getting tested, I had no symptoms or reason to believe I had sleep apnea. Even had a test done years ago prior to this when I was a wee lad that came back negative.
Since I've been diagnosed, I've been googling and researching on my down time for information related to all this. The last thing I want to do is make a poll and see if what's happened to you all (and me) matches the research data I've come up with. -
Sleep Apnea is the latest scam that we drivers have to face. Thousands of drivers are not dying daily from this. If their gonna check drivers for it then they should check also for hemmoroids, Hiv, whooping cough, malaria and of course the most important one of all.....Ebola.
Mongrel77 Thanks this. -
I can see a lawyer making some good money filing a class action. "Have you been diagnosed with sleep apnea by xxx?"

I had mine done with a company that sells the machines. I tested negative as did my husband. Although he heard that everyone always tests positive, so I don't know. I guess it's really going to depend on who/where it is. Just had my recertification physical, and theyre making me take it again which is bull. And when I asked about a temporary because I don't plan on staying with this idiotic company much longer, she was a c*** about it. So looks like I'm done working here. Not worth wasting the money, sure I make decent money, but I refuse to throw money at them when I KNOW I have no sleeping issues.
Vilhiem Thanks this.
