Pretty sad barrage of answers. You need to report the accident to the safety department ASAP. The idea that no one is going to know and or to hide the damage or pretend it never happened is just pathetic. There is a reason that it seems as though the industry is digging after hitting the bottom of the barrel. Are they going to fire you for bending or breaking off a wing? Almost certainly not. If something else happens and they discover the first accident after the next accident (because apparently no one out here can drive without bashing into and running over things) then you are almost sure to get terminated and rightly blackballed for being a high risk employee that should not even be hired. Put on your big boy pants and accept the fact that you made a dumb mistake. Learn from it and move on.

I'm sure you know which comment I removed from this post, and I'm sure you know that was way out of line. You could have made your point without that, and doing so next time would be well advised.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that point. Its not a perception nor was it rude nor was it some personal attack on a poster. Its a general statement of fact. Drivers who fail to report accidents, get discovered and when investigate are found to have had more unreported accidents are more likely to be terminated and not given any benefit of any doubt. If you took this as me attacking the poster personally, I disagree. If thats how it came across, I apologize to the posters and other members.

People inately want to confess to anything they have done, no matter how minor. The police know this and are trained to get people to confess. Company safety dept. people also know this. I knew one well; he is a retired state trooper and then became a safety man at a trucking company. We talked about this very subject. He could get a driver to confess to anything while smiling and buying him a cup of coffee in the break room; then fire the driver and escort him to the gate.
"I know you bent that cab extender; ha,ha,ha,ha, ; no big deal, we've all done things like that. I've scratched a few patrol cars myself, hahahahah." "YOU'RE FIRED AND THIS WILL BE NOTED ON YOUR DAC REPORT."icsheeple Thanks this. -

A few here may have suggested hiding it, but if he pays for it, out of his pocket, he IS taking responsibility. And its a mistake he will most likely not repeat. He didn't tear off a hood, he didn't misdeliver 3 pallets of flat screens to his personal storage, he dinged up his truck. Not life or death, that above all else is what everyone is trying to convey.
skellr, wore out, pattyj and 1 other person Thank this. -
Did you take pictures and call safety?
Nevermind....... -
Op isn't going to get fired for something like this but he will if he doesn t fess up.Companies aren't stupid. Also the op may have had to fillout a check list when he got issued the trk and a busted faring wasn't on that list.Drivers damage equipment far worse then this and they don't get fired unless they keep repeating it over and over.DustyRoad Thanks this.
