Erm... sorta. But dry pavement also allows steers to bite and turn. It will turn. It wont like it though. Interlock will make semi understand one concept on ice Straight. Mush.

Going out on a limb here, but did you actually take a jack, and crawl under there and look? Seems like a serious situation you are describing. Clearly, they bent something, and for the record, the tire is probably shot as well.

Matter a fact I believe I did see them engaged. Would it really make it turn that bad and pop while turning?

The shop just gave me a call and are asking why is the 5th wheel moved to the back...

Could that be the issue, 5th wheel back to the max?

The shop called me and asking why the 5th wheel is moved to the back....

It's a heavy spec truck and 5th wheel sits higher than a regular truck, would that be an issue?

Having the rear end locked will put a ton of stress and a major bind on the steer axle on pavement when turning, not to mention the drive axles, that function is intended for OFF ROAD or slippery conditions only. The longer the wheel base the more difficult to turn and more stress imparted to the front end. Locked up the trucks wants to go straight whether on a slippery surface or a dry one surface with of all the drive axles turning at the same rate, on the same path.

So these 2 factors diffs locked and 5th wheel being slid back can cause these symptoms.. popping and lack of turning?

I don't see how the 5th being back to far would hurt turning. If anything I think it would as it lightens the load o the the steer. Now the axles locked in could cause your complaint.

As far the 5th wheel goes, I cannot imagine it having anything at all to do with the popping, having it all the way back is only going to reduce weight/pressure on the steer axle, having the opposite effect.
