The owner of Roberts is named Dave,he was the one who came to tow me. He was a nice guy ,he actually measured it with me again and seen that my bridge measurement were almost spot on. You're allowed a six inch variance.
DOT on 84 in NY slaughter car haulers ,they actually told me they were easy to write a lot of tickets. They especially like the guys with dually pick ups pulling car trailers.
They actually target a lot more smaller trucks overall ,straight jobs, landscapers pulling trailers etc.You especially don't want to piss off the older female DOT cop named Theresa ,she will destroy you with tickets if you get her mad or are running poor equipment. She'll also go through your log book with a fine tooth comb.
As far as collusion between the DOT cop and the towing company,it's really hard to prove if there was any.It might not be monetary, they could be friends or relatives, and he's just creating more tows for him because he has that type of relationship with him. He was pretty nasty towards me,but became a different person when Dave showed up with the wrecker. He had a big smile, and joking around.....at the expense of my business and income .
,I have a lot of friends who are cops ,and some DOT cops ,there are good and bad amongst them, and when you're friends with them they'll talk a little
More openly about other cops who they can't stand or are incompetent ,etc. some of the most crooked guys I ever knew became cops, and one was a cop and is now a sitting judge.I know a PA DOT cop who was an overtime hound and was out on weekends ,holiday weekends etc,and would destroy trucks with tickets. The other DOT cops hated him,he would write 5 times the tickets they would. His hunting buddy owned a truck repair business with road service ,who was a mutual friend of mine. The DOT cop would call him and tell him to keep his phone on because he was going to be busy today. Was he psychic? No he intended to write a bunch of tickets that day and put a bunch of trucks out of service. My friend loved the guy, couldn't speak highly enough about him. Why not that DOT cop made him a lot of money and they were good friends .
The DOT cop who had me towed had a definite agenda when he pulled me over. He's found a niche he can work with trucks running overweight permits. There are trucks out there that shouldn't have them, they have a junk light duty truck that they pay someone ,or know someone that will falsify their specs of their truck so they can get an overweight permit and make more money running 102k. They have light rears, light duty axles ,run 22.5 tires etc.My truck is a 2012 KW W900,long wheel base daycab with a double frame, 2 steering boxes,46k lb rears, 18speed,with a 550 Cummins.I run only virgin 24.5 ,16 ply tires on the tractor and trailer. This truck was spec'd and bought to run with an overweight permit. I've been doing this work for almost 20 years. This DOT cop didn't even know the difference between 38k rears and 46k rears ,he told me he didn't care. Well he should ,it's one of the requirements for the permit. The DOT cop who inspected me the day before did,he layed right under and checked the size of my rears. I have all my documentation from that day and should beat this in court,it's just a shame I have to go to court and lose another day because of this .
I used to run 84 everyday and get coffee at the Lords Valley exit at the Dunkin Donuts. Do you have the junk yard right off the exit?

No, the junk yard is not mine! I have known Joe for 30+ years, but his way of doing business and mine are night and day. Our first shop was where Have a Hoot family fun center curretly is down in Matamoras. Dad ran that yntil the mid 80's when they closed 209 to trucks. I bought out My Place Towing off exit 46, ran it for a while until I burned out and sold it to Joe at Lords Valley.

My only conection to Lords Valley, besides living a mile from there, is occasionally I will run one of his heavy wreckers when I'm bored or there is a big wteck, otherwise we are not and have never been in business together.
