New driver trying to decide between two companies and jobs. I have read multiple reviews both good and bad for both Schneider and JB Hunt. I was offered a OTR Driver position by Schneider. at .50 CPM and JB Hunt offered me a Regional Intermodal Position at .44 CPM plus Activity Pay. Company dependability is more important than home time. Any info is appreciated.

    You have two problems.

Regional Intermodal Rail and Shipyards. You MUST BE ON TIME. That train or ship IS leaving without your box will be enough to get you fired. You cannot be late period. There is about 200 locations JBH goes to. (I spent three weeks OTR with JBH as a experiment after 9-11) You will find that if you are in a company yard sitting in the drivers room, you will be issued a computer and desk and told to take training courses over the computer. essentially make work. I spent exactly one hour learning how to use the JBH internal clocking in time clock system. I learned it is MUCH MUCH better to gtfo of that building and make sure that if I am in North Little Rock or some place, I'll park 20 miles away and stay in the truck for my sleeper time rather than go directly to the yard itself and be buried in training while waiting for another stupid load. I rather be sleeping. Hamster wheel. computer style. It's not for me.

Schnider will give you some more freedom around the USA But you cannot be late. However it's less risky than intermodal regional with JBH.

I rather not deal with either one at all. I'll go back to a third party company and run McKesson medicine out of Memphis. It's my best work in trucking.

.44 at JBH surprises me. When I joined JBH 2001 at the end for OTR work they offered me .48 If I would take it right away because that year they intended to cut down to .45 for OTR max new hires for anyone. And this is what? 2018 and you are still being offered .44? Give me a break. It's almost as if you are losing pay in 20 years. That's BS.

Probably make more money with JB Hunt Intermodal.
If you decide you don't like intermodal work, there's plenty of other companies to choose from for OTR or regional.
Where are you in Kentucky; what city are you near?

I'd go with JB Hunt Intermodal. You can always switch to their OTR division if you want to later or many other companies.
Good ole' E-Town; been there many times. I'm from Tennessee.

I did J B Hunt intermodal for 6 years out of Kansas City MO. I worked 5 days a week and was never more than 300 miles away from the yard and was home every weekend.. Don't pay any attention to X1Heavy and his opinions , the loads are set up with plenty of time to get them to the rail yards or the customers.
Yes they do push safety training but it's not forced on you while you are needing your sleep.
Why did I quit? After 42 years of driving truck I felt like I was ready to retire.

There is a steep learning curve, and you need to be registered at all the rail yards. After that, it is just long, grinding days where you sit in line a lot, back into tight spaces, find missing trailers... You know, trucking.

Have you graduated from an accredited CDL school? Would you only consider those two offers?
