Positive things about CR England

I know that's hard to believe, but they don't get as newbie as billy, and heck why tread on a guy that wants to work. God knows there's plenty of lazy people out there. (Ma Monster is sitting in recliner, tapping on this here computer, sipping coffee, sniffs a little #2 to bring back memories) )))

Wait wait - whoa whoa... let's not jump the gun here LOL - The thing is... I wasn't worried about 'bombing out' once I am hired. I was worried about them simply not hiring me after the training period was up. I know for a fact once I work for them, I'm not going to 'bomb out' because I'm not going to give them any reason to fire me. I'm a decent employee and I do have a good job record, and an almost-perfect driving record. A 2 pointer in 2000 and a 2 pointer in 2004.... I'm also rather book smart, so I know I will pass the written exam without a problem.

I'm pretty "book smart" too. I've passed the written exam for a pilot's license because I've learned how to pass written tests, and I'm confident I can figure out how to actually fly an airplane, sooner or later. Would you like to ride along? I figure if all those other folks can do it, so can I.

Yes, the only thing is the actual, physical driving of the rig.

I'm no less capable than the other 3 million truckers out there who also were newbies once.

Judging by the Big truck truckin' industry's turn over rate, with some said companies running an over 80% to 100% turnover rate -- per year, I'd reckon there are MORE than 3 million FORMER Big truck truck drivers out there doin' something ELSE for a paycheck now-a-daze. And, of the 3 million who are doing it now, how many are newbies who won't be driving a Big truck within a year or two? I don't think you can accurately judge a book by it's new cover.

As far as everything else goes, paperwork, invoices, knowing how to load and secure cargo, reading a map, etc etc etc - I'm not going to have any problems. It's driving the truck itself. But I'll learn it

You probably will "learn it." But, compared to the "everything else" part, driving the Big truck is probably going to be the easiest part. It's often the "everything else" that comes and goes with the job that causes many folks to hang up their driving gloves. Like an iceberg, it's that part that isn't seen that'll sink a ship. AND, there's MORE of both that's unseen and unimagined -- until it hits you, or you hit it. Either way, the results can be the same.

Eventually, I'll have a year experience - then 3 years - then 10 years... time marches on - and if 3,000,000 other Americans can do it, no reason why I can't.

"Time" sure does march on. With 3 million Big truck truck drivers, some newbies and some seasoned and WELL seasoned -- we continue to hear about a driver shortage. Ever wonder why that is?
Let's see, we KNOW there's a high turnover rate of Big truck truck drivers in the Big truck truckin' industry. Ever wonder why THAT is?

And, considering the population of the United States has reached 3 HUNDRED million, what percentage does your math book say that is? For each 100 Big truck truck drivers who are drivin' a Big truck, how many didn't make it a full year, or, not at all? There must be a learnin' book out there somewhere that contains those statistics.

Also, of those 3 million who ARE drivin' a Big truck, how many wish they weren't? And, how many SHOULDN'T be?

I think you can "doubt" that because you haven't tried. Now-a-daze, it's the insurance companies who call the shots concerning who is hired and who isn't, ...... not the Big truck truckin' companies. Follow the Money Trail.

Or so they tell us. They also would like to put foreign drivers in their Big trucks. Employees who will work for less and not complaining about their lower wages. You know, those foreigners who ONLY do the jobs NO Americans want to do. Like construction, food services and landscaping. OH!
And Big truck truckin.
Jose is already working those jobs south of the border where many American companies have relocated to because NO American wanted THOSE jobs either. You know, like the Auto industries.

That's a good way to getcher foot broke. Not to mention your wallet. Remember what I told you about the insurance companies pulling the strings? Big truck truckin' ain't what it USED to be, back in the day. Now-a-daze, most insurance carriers wouldn't allow a non-employee to even be IN a Big truck. Whereas your method to prove yourself worked charms in the past, today, it ain't too likely it'll be allowed,..... even if the truckin' companies WANTED to do that. The insurance company says No Way!

Not that I'll screw up once I'm on the road... I think I'll do just fine out there.

Ever think about what someone ELSE might do out there on the road that could cause YOU grief? Sometimes things can go wrong when YOU'RE doing EVERYthing right. I think they call those things 'accidents'. Or, mishaps. Maybe blunders.

Example:
A Big truck truckin' buddy of mine recently had a 4-wheeler plow into his Big truck. The 4-wheeler driver received a citation for speeding. He deserved that.
My buddy received a citation for 'failure to yield'.
Go figure. He wasn't doing anything wrong and a car crashed into him. But he still got cited.
The fine is about $150. The lawyer to fight the citation would be around $500.

Many police agencies see Big trucks as a way to generate revenue. A couple of citations issued like that, and guess who's out of a job?

And besides, with all the nightmare stories I heard about CRE, I never heard many bad things about their training program.

So "good" that I've heard they send some wannabes home right after, or before the training is complete. Seems they take your money --- and run. Either that, or they don't feel like training that day. One way or the other, CR England still makes bank -- by robbing the wannabes account for services (not) rendered.

And I bet it was a CR England recruiter who told you that. Probably over the phone so you wouldn't have to pass through their metal detector to have a face-to-face conversation.

I plan on being a good employee and if still - I don't get accepted in the final approval phase, I'll worry about it then - right now my attitude is it is not going to happen.

And while you're at it, forget about life and medical insurance. Just plan on not needing it. And, if you happen to get real sick -- worry about it then. I'm sure a pre-existing illness means nothing to an insurance company. Right?
They're just there to 'help' you. As you help them reap huge profits. But, you've already told us you have money in the bank. Don't sweat the small stuff. Gambling and taking risks are a sure road to success.

That's not what I've heard many FORMER England employees sayin'. Quite the opposite, in fact.

You know someone who's been there for a couple of weeks, praising CR England as a fine, upstanding company with nice looking Big trucks. What do the MANY employees who've been there longer know about things? Don't listen to them. They're probably just mad because CR England has ruined their credit and life.

I'm not being over-confident, just that I am not going to worry, either. I know what I am capable of and yes, there are a lot of local companies that hire newbies as soon as they get their license.

Name five right off the top of your head, who will hire you as soon as you get your license. That YOU'LL still be paying for the training for to the tune of several thousand dollars.

Did it ever occur to you that CR England is in the business of TRAINING wannabes, and NOT filling empty, COMPANY Big truck seats? They'll sure try to sell you on a lease/purchase plan though. Win/Win for THEM. They sell YOU the Big truck headaches, while THEY hide behind guards and metal detectors.

That's one way to look at it, and ignore what they're doing. Did it ever occur to you that being rejected during, or right after training, makes YOU look like you can't or couldn't handle the program? It's one thing to flunk out of the actual job, but to flunk out even BEFORE you get out on the road sure would raise the red flag for MOST reputable companies. Like the trainers had NO doubt at ALL that you ain't got what it takes. But HeY!
Didn't you "hear" CR England has an excellent training program? So. wouldn't their opinion be listened to and accepted by the OTHER Big truck truckin' companies?

Couldn't handle the top of the best training?

CR England will tell you if you've made it to "newbie." Until they decide whether or not to keep you as a company Big truck truck driver.
Some people CAN do that.
Others can't.
And, still others won't, because they won't chance CR England doing to them, what England HAS done to MANY people.

I went to a school on long island in 1975 and obtained my licenses there. It was a different ball game, cause I knew people in the business. My friend jimmy would let me drive with my permit, his truck from the George Washington bridge to spartan New Jersey to pick up Limestone. That's how i had my training. Went to school and passed the first time. In them days it was a different ball game. He had a transtar cab over, and it wasn't a comfort thing like today. When I passed my buddy Michael hook me up with an over the road newbie company. Handed me a span kin new ford 13 speed road ranger and I had to go to Compton California. Never had an accident, and made it on time with the loads. There are people that are natural at it, and I had no problem. Since then I drove for a bunch of companies, in 32 years.
Let me tell you, I know Billy a long time, and I'm sorry billy if you are reading this, but you like your creature comforts. I wish you good luck, and I know how you hate scams. I wouldn't go and train so far away in the blind like that. I turned down a Job with US Express, had my papers all sent clean license, I mean white, and told them I was 52 years old, hey no problem. They are in Chattanooga Tennessee, and they wanted me to go to Oklahoma to train there. Turned it down, this boy has never drove in the dark without my headlights on sort of speak. Turned them down. Now they have pretty trucks. I can stand at the truck stop here and look at all them pretty trucks.
Yes aftershock, it's the weather, breakdowns, people cutting you off, mechanically problems, keeping track of your cargo, reefer which I ran, making sure the unit in running at the right temperature, worrying about weight, Chicken coops, Smokey bears, and the lady that stops for no reason like i encountered in Florida dead stop because her kids never saw an orange tree by the citrus tower. I was doing 60 and thank God I was able to go around them. That car shook from the draft from my rig, and shook the whole car.
Well Billy you'll find out, I just wanted to be put on the record I was always there to help you. Aftershock is talking right, and says it as it is. Book learning isn't going to help you with the physical part. I've said my piece, I know you, they don't. If I were you I'd get out of there while you have money in your pocket. Just remember they'll tell you your great, with a smile. Your a New York boy its different out there, you'll find out, they can skin a cat while it's still walking.

GrandmaDebi, TY and God bless you! Of course anyone who wants to do this can do this. Some people just never accomplished anything significant in life - so they decide to hold up their CDL license and act as if they're in some kind of "members only" club - like they're flying the space shuttle or something. As if they hold this elite ability or something that VERY FEW can do!!!

99% of truck drivers are the coolest people around. But there has to be that 1%.... in this case, it's Aftershock. So let's just pretend that Aftershock is a man of great accomplishment. He is, after all, a man who is able to do things very few Americans can handle.

Let's all tip our hats to this great man. I am just a wannabe. I am not good enough to accomplish the great feats of the dog-leg and the double-clutch.

Hold on - I never claimed to know it all. And I was not the one to get mouthy first. Aftershock's only goal is/was to try to discourage me. If someone I KNOW can't even do that. How can someone I don't know do that?

CR England is not going to 'chew me up and spit me out' because I am nothing but polite and respectful to people. I also learn well and I know I am going to be one of their better drivers.

I used too be a trainer for CRE and the advise I can give you is this if you stay with them do it as a company driver yes you will get crapped on but if you lease a truck and run all 48 states you wont know from week too week how many miles your going to run untill you get on a dec. run then once on there you can see if leasing would be better for you instaed of a company truck but DO NOT trust them too get you back to your home state to get your CDL transfered before it expires the only good thing I can say about CRE is that you can either haul temp controlled frieght or dry frieght instead of being limited too just dry frieght CRE was good too me untill I got my 2nd lease truck then I went 7 weeks with out a paycheck due too the turbo being replaced every 15000 miles and sitting for a week while it was getting fixed and the only way I got out of it was driving it and a empty trailer from jonesboro, ar too salt lake city, ut and parking it saying here is your truck back if you can try and stay with refer trailers you might find you like it

Turtle, thank you for the advice. At least yours was legit and had a foundation and factual examples to back it up. I'm sorry if I seemed to come out harsh here tonight, just allowed that other guy to get my goad. But thank God for the ignore function.

No, I doubt I will lease. I will probably stick with them long enough to get a good experience thing down and all, and by then, who knows.... maybe, just maybe, I'll be one of those rare breeds who actually enjoy working for them.

So far, I like their facility here.
