I have been driving OTR for six months now. I'm 66 & retired from my career of 35 years in January. I'm in good health & have a wife 10 years my junior, so we're just ready to retire. Financially I could be retired now but building a larger nest egg would be nice too.
Heck, my father drove truck all his life & retired from Safeway at 83.
You're not too old believe me.PNwMtFlwr, born&raisedintheusa, Savor the Flavor and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would recommend checking in with local rock/gravel supply companies.
Work tends to be a bit seasonal (can drop off with heavy rains).
Lots of fay cab work in the Kelso/Longview area.
An interesting exercise may be to hang out near the interstate bridge and see what type of truck/trailer interest you and which companies are running them.
Also check with local community college. The may have a training program. And may have the connections for Govt grants.Blue Zombie Trucker Thanks this. -

One suggestion before doing anything:
Go to a physician who can do DOT physicals, and have a complete physical done on you, just to make sure that you are able to pass a DOT physical.
Good luck to you and your entire family!
God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!
The absolute sheer driving force of our national economy - without truck drivers, our entire national economy would come to an absolute standstill - if not outright be dead.
Over the mountains, through the woods, into the valleys, coast to coast, from sea to shining sea - truck drivers can and do go anywhere and everywhere, every day, all year round.HiramKingWilliams and ProspectiveDriver56 Thank this. -
In reference to your 35 year career that you retired from, what line of work were you in?
The absolute best of luck in your new driving career, be careful, be safe out there.
