Does anyone ever foresee, in the near future, a possible maximum age limit on truck drivers, age 70 for example, either by the federal government, insurance companies, trucking companies themselves, or possibly all 3 of them?

Good question.I never really thought about it.Nothing in this industry surprises me.A driver where I work is 74.When FMCSA can't think of any more laws to make our life hell and hard to make a decent living, they'll probably make that into law.

Some companies already have it in effect.
65 or 70 is the most common age I've seen lately.CorsairFanboy Thanks this. -
The Federal Age Discrimination law upper limit is 70, so companies could set that as a limit and be legal. Anything less would take a new specific law, or would leave them open to either discrimination law suits, or unemployment/disability claims.

As long as there is an overburdening demand for drivers I think most companies will leave that up to the government to decide via qualification standards.
I doubt the government will do anything because when they're working, older people can't draw SS (until after age 72) without paying it back based on their earnings. So a 68 year old costs the government money if he's not working, but brings in taxes and doesn't draw SS if he's working.Skydivedavec and maxwelltie Thank this. -
This is inaccurate... once a person reaches the age to draw full retirement"66 1/2" in my case you can earn any amount and there is no repayment..
If you take early retirement at 62 you repay until full retirement age.Skydivedavec and Studebaker Hawk Thank this. -
You are wrong with your facts about Social Security, First, a person does not have to wait until 72 to collect S.S. I will be 62 in Feb. and I can collect at a reduced rate, and still can work part time and only can make a limited amount at that time, If I work until 66 which is considered full retirement my S.S. will be approx. $450.00 a month more and can work as much as I want and yes that is full time, If I retire at 70 that income will be approx. $ 400.00 more then being retired at 66, you should get your facts straight before posting on here, my figures are for me only as everybody will be different based on there income, If I semi retire at 62 I will get $ 1,256.00 a month, if I work until 70 it will be a little over $ 2,000.00 a month.......jbatmick, tow614 and Skydivedavec Thank this.

I say everyone gets an ice flow at 72

Correct rocknroll81...
Your birthdate figures into the retirement age also but only varies by a couple of months..
Every year you wait the amount increases until age 70 which is the maximum.
Like for you full retirement is 66 .. I was born in 1956 and full retirement is 66 and 5 months...
Currently mine is projected ar 1600 at 62 .. 2000 at 66.5 and 2500 at 70.
I draw the line at 66.5. I'm done after that.
SS will be here.. people keep saying it will go broke to scare you into voting one way or another but they never say welfare or food stamps will go broke..rocknroll81 Thanks this. -
Eventually,
more companies will have a maximum age limit for drivers,
however they won't admit to it.
Age discrimination is one of the hardest to prove.

Most likely pushed by the insurance companies, as usual.
