Holy shahoozis! You are only 30 miles east of me...
(why the heck do you want to be here? LOL) -
clean air, nice scenery, job market sometimes not so good, but I do think there are areas in the north west that offer a number of advantages.
Just my opinion

SeeJay,
I moved from Johnstown,PA to Sevierville,Tn in 1990 and then back to PA in 1999. I miss it. If you get on the outskirts of town where the traffic is light its beautiful, hardly no property taxes. I wish the hell I never moved back to PA. But everything happens for a reason. East Tennessee is the place to be. And winters are fairly mild. You have all four seasons. I miss it. I dont blame you for leaving Florida. I haul sailboats and I love to go the Keys. I couldnt live in Florida with the overcrowding. Thats just me Good Luck with your choice.

Well I would say come to Connecticut to see the seasons change and the beautiful foilage in the fall but the prices here are just as expensive as those your describing. I think the cost of living has gone up everywhere.

Exactly!! I couldn't wait to get the hell out! I vist the old man every now and then, but I bailed as soon as I could upon graduating from H.S.
-
I forgot to mention Connecticut taxes the heck out of ya too. Did I mention we're getting a 2nd thunderstorm in the same day? Every day lately it's the thunderstorms.
-
I would vote for somewhere around Albany Oregon. 10-4.

If you like lake and i mean lots of lake 12,280 to be exact and 4 full seasons I'd try Minnesota. So lots of fishing, beaches, sking and a few casinos, North you have beautiful woods and nature and plenty of hunting.

I have lived in .. I forget.. 18? of the 50 states, and visited each of them.
Choice of place to live? Alaska, hands down.
I love the coastal climate
I love the scenery (that the rest of the pacific states claim they have, but it's not even close)
I love the culture (what California claims to have, but doesn't)
I love the *FRESH* seafood
I love the FRESH venison
I love the fact that virtually nobody else wants to go there. It's not THE place to retire
There are NO snowbirds
Best of all, there are no &#(*&^$^ amusement parks
