Had the same problem with a job last year. I worked independently for 3 and a half years as a farm laborer and had no tax forms to prove where i worked or for how long. I basically told the person interviewing me that I had mostly been doing independent work that paid under the table, and he completely understood. He gave me a different option and asked if there were any co-workers or past neighbors to contact instead of previous employees, and so i gave him some names and numbers. I was hired the next day.

Most employers want to know one thing: Are you stable, and are you willing to work? In the end, they will take any reference you have if you just explain your particular situation and show them the attitude and motivation that you are ready to work and willing to do anything to get accepted. That goes for finding work in a truck, or finding work in am office.

By the way, i highly encourage you to avoid roadmaster. I have 2 friends that have gone there in the past 4 years, and both of them regret it. My first friend fell for the "werner" trap in which roadmaster encourages you to start your first year with a low-paying, low-mileage company that treats its drivers like crap. My friend later woke-up, quit werner after 9months, and found a local driving job.

My second friend had an even worse experience. He trained under roadmaster, got recommended to Swift. My friend liked Swift overall, but had 3 different driver managers in less than a year and none of them could get their act together, so he quit after his first year. He liked what he saw at Roehl, and decided to give them a try. He was informed that his roadmaster CDL was basically worth ZERO to them, and they retrained him for free. He was pretty pissed to learn that he got even BETTER training from them, for even cheaper...nearly free.

I can imagine thers thousands of other roadmaster students that have found out they paid way too much for training, only to find out that none of the better paying starter companies even recognize their program.
