I am currently working for another company pulling refers at .35cpm. I dont have any problems with the company other than the pay. I did get into trucking to make money. I have been driving for just shy of 4 months, and have been testing the water again over the past month. I can get on at Schneider and make .45cpm pulling dry van.

I just want to verify a few things before I make my decision. Everything I mention is based off what a recruiter told me, and keep in mind I have 4 months experience.

Making .45cpm starting and pulling dry can is realistic?

Hometime... I was told their hometime policy was updated, and now the drivers take off however long they want pretty much as long as you drive for 2 weeks. Drive 2 weeks, take 2 weeks off. Drive 4 weeks take 4 off, drive 2 weeks take 4 off etc...

Are the miles there? I currently average about 2500-3000 a week and gross about right under 1,000. Wont make sense to move if I'm only getting 2000 miles a week.

Should I expect to go with a trainer? I was told 4 days orientation and I get in my own truck and roll.

What kind of truck do people normally start in?

Any other information I'd need to know would be appreciated. Thanks

    Ok,
    If they said .45, it's .45. They're not liars.
Hometime, can't help you there. But I can tell you it depends largely on where you live. Good freight market, no problem. Bad freight market, could be an issue.
Miles are what you're doing right now. Remember, they only make money when you're rolling.
Trainer thing, I don't know. But, the worst that will happen is 5-7 days with a trainer and you're on your own.
Truck? Brother ,you get what you get. That said, they're running some pretty nice stuff.
    Good luck and happy trails

Thanks for the info. I am from Kentucky, if that helps any. I like to run 3-4 months at a time then take about a week off. As long as I can swing by the house and pick the wife up for a few weeks and drop her back off.

As far as the truck goes, what this jet pack deal I just read about? Something about they fly you home and then back to a terminal I'm assuming. And they slip seat? Or other drivers would be in my truck while I'm home? Didn't really get that part.

Also, another pretty important thing for me to ask is, are there driver facing cameras?

With the extended time off programs and the jet set program you do not have an assigned truck. It is all slip seat, each time you go home you clean out the truck and get a different one when you go back out.

Jet set has you flying to different parts of the country, where ever they need drivers, usually ro work on a dedicated account until your hometime.

So these are just "programs?" I can just do otr and drive for a couple months, and go home for a week or so? As in, take the truck home... cause I dont know about the whole slip seating deal. Seems like a huge hassle.

Another thing... all the trucks dont have inverters? Or APUs? And if they dont have APUs, can you idle freely?

Since you plan to take the wife sometimes; choose a company that has trucks set up for driver comfort with APU's, refrigerator, etc. There's plenty out there that will hire you with 4 months experience.
Even with maybe a little lower cpm, you can make that up with long runs and good accessorial pays.
Check this one and make some phone calls for more details. This company will hire you because they hire new cdl grads, plus you already have 4 mos. experience:

Here's some more & you can take the wife. Pretty sure all these have APU:
Britton Transport - no fee to take wife; it's free.
Schuster - nations largest ice cream hauler.
WEL - can take wife or friends or other family.
    Butler Transport
Danny Herman Trucking - no northeast runs.
    West Side Transport
    Navajo Express
    Titan Transfer
    Magnum Ltd.
