I apologize if this has been covered but I am wondering if anyone knows how much eligibility is used for CDL training. More precisely, we get 36 months of education benefits under the Post 9/11 GI Bill. A typical college semester would use four months of that eligibility. I have seen CDL training schools that last as little as two or three weeks of training so would that draw my eligibility down by a month, less than a month, more? Thanks if anyone has an answer for this from experience.

Years ago, I used part of my benefit for this as well. If it's 3 weeks, you'll get a month's benefit from it, depending on which carrier you choose to go with. You could also get the apprenticeship training pay to offset your lower initial training wage, depending on if your company participates with the VA's program or not.

Hope this helps you in your decision, there's other vets on here that are more current on the benefits than I am as well.

It takes off like 1 or 2 months total.

I received an associates degree in Casino Management, then decided 2 years ago to get my CDL (5 week class), and am now using the remainder in Werner's Vet Apprentiship program ( since Jan 2017) and I am now about to run out of benefits within the next 2 or 3 months.

I used mine with ATI. It was 10 weeks long and used 3 months of my GI Bill. Covering the 6.5K needed to complete the class as well as the stipend.

So to answer your question, that would depend on the CDL school and how long it takes, as long as the school you pick accepts GI Bill tuition. Personally I would pick the school with the longest class. It gives you the best chance to score the most out of your stipend and it gives you a solid chance to get your CDL with the most drive/class time, IMHO

GI bill offers a total of 36 months worth of education benefits to use towards degrees. Not 36 to get a CDL.

Good thing you found a job that you don't have to be proficient in the writing or comprehension of the English language.

If you want the most of the stipend you can choose a company that participates in Veterans Apprenticeship. There is well over 20 companies to choose from and you get the BAH stipend for up to 2 years. Helps to offset the training pay then gives a really nice bonus boost when you start making actual money.

Problem with that is once you start making around $1000 a week consistently you are taken off the program and then the stipend stops. Tmc would let the drivers go for 3 months before they would report the progress to the VA.

Been making $1000 - $1200 a week all year long starting in Mid-January 2017. Was never removed.

VA has gotten slower on payment though that's for sure.
