I see some outfits that haul warehouse steel with multiple stops, they give the drivers some kind of plastic blocks they can use just like how you used your dunnage

so, they hand me this preloaded trailer. The manifest says 48,050lbs of steel and I notice the trailer number makes it a steel trailer.

Well hell I don't even have to hook it to know I'm overweight. I can get right at 80k with 47,500 or so on a combo (usually). I weigh it. 83,600lbs (I'm not even full of fuel)

    ugh

now Colorado allows you to be 85,000lbs off interstate. (no permits). So, the back way to Montrose I go. 285/24/US50. Upppppppppppppppppp and downnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. ugh Picture taken top of Monarch Pass (11,000 something feet)

60' beams, also legal in Colorado (not O/S).

The forkie took that load off in 2 picks. I love that place. Including putting everything away I wasn't there 20 minutes.

I pick up drywall on the way back. It's a preload. You drop an empty with straps, protectors and tarps and they load it, strap it and tarp it (yeah, not a bad deal). Of course i"m dropping a steel trailer which will make the next guy probably overweight too...............ugh.

When there I notice one (empty) trailer has no tarps and this one has an extra steel tarp. Why in god's name there is a steel tarp. Steel tarps are black and small when rolled up and like 1/3 the weight.. the 6' drops are purple (like above) and heavy, it's not rocket science. Whatever, tell dispatch, grab the steel tarp to bring it home.

Get to delivery, pull the front tarp off and fold it
pull the back tarp off and find..............

    What the??????????
well at least i found yet another steel tarp (again, makes no sense why someone dropped it), i get why it's there. they draped it and went "well that's not going to work" and went and grabbed the right ones. so yes, fat old man had to fold 3 tarps.

then i go get poles. They use these for cell phone towers. (yeah, i asked, i had no idea) from the paint shop.
    20190607_113736_resized.jpg

took like 45 minutes, load it, strap it, etc. cut the dunnage, whole bit. not super heavy. There are 3 sets of 4 there. (12 total)

I roll into delivery spot and there's another company truck there. What the??????? guy wasn't at the place I loaded. Reciever says forkie is at lunch.

They finally start unloading the front guy. with a big forklift. (they loaded mine with a small indoors style one, all 4 at once). an hour later they have the guy pull and jackknife into a dock, then they get the ones off the back (one at a time) and then get parallel to the dock so again. it took 2 hours just to get to me.
    20190607_141407_resized.jpg

    I have no idea. Truly.
Finally they get to me and i start pulling up like that and the big boss comes out and yells at everyone to take them off and place them and deal with them later. Guess who probably got a voice mail from my company "yo, after an hour it's X dollars per hour to sit there" Guy told me the pole only weigh like 1000lbs each.

    It was like keystone cops.

the best part about Monarch pass (going WB). (US50 between Salida and Gunnison) is you get to the top and start down. 30mph curve. 30mph curve. and it's easily 6+% grade. 30 mph curve. "runaway truck ramp, 3.5 miles"

    it's literally 3.5 miles of 25 to 35mph curves and a 6% plus grade

Really, how am I going to survive going 3.5 miles????????????

    kinda cracks me up
