    Oh...

Didn’t realize there was such an animal, especially with all the flatbed crap that appears on my liftgate trailer.

Yeah most of our freight is ltl loads for the aerospace industry. We are not a traditional “hub and spoke” ltl company.

That piece came out of Washington with a bunch of stops in Wichita. Instead of driving the last 200 miles for the last drop they dropped it at our yard and we would put it with the next truck heading that way.
Some of the fun multy stop loads from the past since I don’t do much of that any more.

65' long fabricated steel columns. (O/S load).

See that mess of wood in the middle
    learn from me.
if you blow up the picture there's a bunch of angle iron sitting there, with the peak high (like a house) but it's lower than the column next to it, so nothing woudl touch it (straps/chains). so put a dunnage piece on it, between the peak and the column. But then realized that wouldn't work cuz pushing down on the dunnage would p ush the pile of angle iron out. so after climbing up there like 5 times (ugh) finally built that pile of dunnage on the outside to hold it all in.

What i should have done: Cut my losses, gotten the forkie to flip the pile of angle iron so it was like an L with one side up, the upright part of the L against the column, then put a couple piece of dunnage to get the height right and thrown a few straps and been on my way.

but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i'm invested in this stupid way, just one more thing. bah

BTW the flags on the front overhang are to remind ME when I'm turning. :)

construction forms. 10' wide. (and a whole menagerie of crap on the back that you can't see. then delivered dead downtown (the baseball stadium is at my back). It was a wee tight getting in.
    20190702_105324_resized.jpg

then they said go pick up shingles. God i hate shingles. it's not them, it's the place.
    show up at noon:

the line goes all the way around to your left, probably have to blow it up, maybe 30 trucks in front of me. 2 or 3 forkies.

    After an hour:
    20190702_132848_resized.jpg

4 hours, 10 minutes later finally loaded. It's like 4:45pm. "ohhhhhhhhhh, it has to be delivered (10 whole miles away)"
it's not lettuce, it isn't going to expire FFS
It will be like 5:30, 6pm when I get there. yes, that's fine
so they put it in the warehouse SMH

I told dispatch next day "if i wanted to sit for hours for something that isn't going to expire, I"d pull a reefer"

    manholes

followed by inlets (that's what the guy said they are called)
    20190703_121705_resized.jpg

So that back one weighs 26,000lbs (front one is like 15,000) and i realize it's loaded wrong, but i called the receiver and said I had to back in so they wanted it on the tail.

so i get there and neither the loader nor the excavator are big enough to handle it. Soooooooooooooooo, they put the excavator on one side and the loader on the other and pulled it up, i pulled out and they walk it close to where it's going to go (no idea how they are going to place it)

BTW local is totally awesome, no really, it's awesome i swear. 3 days, 37 hours. ugh.

    it depends
Monday (the fabricated columns) was like 350 miles all day. (llike 130 to go get them, 150 to bring them back and then whatever I did after that (which i forget what it was)

yesterday (the concrete stuff) i did like 250 miles. (back and forth one end of town to the other, on a day before a holiday it was totally "awesome" (not))

day before (the forms and the stupid ffffing shingles) I did 65 miles (yeah, all day, my commute is longer than that). and the 10 mile delivery of shingles took almost an hour (local traffic is awesome, NOT)

some days 500 miles. (over the mtns usually)

Most at this job, 630 in a day. (all 2 lane mtn roads)

the money is average. slows way down in the winter, crazy busy in the summer. I'm home most every night (keep an overnight bag, ya just never know.........) but they have OTR guys too.

I like it because it's something different all the time, the money is ok and the equipment/shop is seriously solid.

and there's a lot of guys way older than me. (60's, 70's, started driving when i was a kid and i'm no young pup)

    and...................
we rarely tarp!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (which is totally worth giving up some money for IMO)
