Thanks. Thats similar to a 379 then. W9 might be an option for me after all. I had written them off as being too heavy.

What's the reasoning on making sure you can scale 46,000? Is there THAT much freight that is that heavy? I understand perfectly that it will give you the option to bid on certain loads, but can't you just get annuals for extra weight? Or up the weight on your plates?
I thought OD loads/permits were a PITA, but just being overweight was easier to permit/plate. Sorry if it's a dumb question.Hurst Thanks this. -
You can't permit a normal divisible load of sticks or bricks or the like. And you are pretty much limited to 80,000lbs on 5 axles. Generally speaking anyway

What makes it so expensive? I changed a set on a 9200 IH for $3500 from 4:10 to 3:70. Reman front used rear took me most of one day.

The majority of what I do is in the 15k - 35k range. Its just that I have come across some loads that would have worked out well to get me out of where I was,.. but I had to pass because I could not scale the load.
Its basically the same reason I have a 53' trailer. I dont always need the deck space,.. but its nice to have when you do.

I was quoted $8500 - $9000 to go from 3.55 to a 3.25 in my truck.
I'm sure I could do it for less if I did it myself. I can do 12 bolt, 9 inch and 8.8 rear ends for cars in my sleep. How ever,.. I have never even seen the inside of a semi rear. From what I was told the whole carrier, chunk and everything needs to be replaced. I do not trust myself to tear it apart and put it back together properly. Not even sure I have all the tools needed to do it.
I think if I got some hands on experience helping someone do one, I would then feel confident enough to my own. Till then,.. I'll pray nothing ever goes wrong with mine.

No special tools needed, pulls the axles, pull the drive shafts, pull the pig, then reverse the steps. I bought mine from trucks and parts in new Paris Ohio, they even switched my yokes for me.

I took a set of eaton super 40's from 3.36 to 3.90 and it cost 3800 dollars for a set of remans. If you have Rockwell rears tho be prepared to spend some coin.

Hey, Ty! (Haulhand) I see you up there ^^^
Thought I saw you at the Friendly Ghost truck stop in Casper. You must have been coming or going to the rail yard behind there to load.

I think you hit on exactly what stresses many of us out. It's when you are told "The forklift is down, so we can't unload you till morning" and you get that panic feeling because you have already committed to be somewhere else and now you can't make it.MJ1657 Thanks this. -
PeteyFixAll, skootertrashr6 and MJ1657 Thank this.
