I carry one of these or something similar always. I had a nice assisted opening blade with a seat belt cutter and glass breaker but I IMG_20160822_165735374.jpg planted it somewhere.

I usually carry a leatherman but the sheath is starting to rip at the belt loop so I need to get another sheath.

Every vehicle gets a board knife with a few spare blades, a medium sized screw driver, vise grips and a claw hammer!! All in the cab, accessible from the drivers seat!!
My wife keeps the claw hammer under her front seat!!
I usually carry a Buck 110 lock back on my belt, was my wedding present, from my wife. Sometimes I'll carry one of my grandfathers old knives, depends where I'm going, I don't like to carry much, keep it light and keep it simple.

Those folding utility blade knifes are pretty good deals. I have carried one, nice to have a razors edge and just change it when needed.

And I have one of those pull thru things with the carbides in it for sharpening, works great and way easier than a stone, which we still have several, somewhere on a shelf collecting dust!

I use knives all the time. Prying off the back cover on something, cutting insulation off a wire to make a new connection, cutting open a package, even use them as a flathead screw driver from time to time if the situation calls for it. The list goes on and on.

Yet apparently in some places they see any knife at any time as a weapon, it can't been anything else only a weapon. Oh no why would you need that? Why would you need a weapon? Arrest him or her! Hide your children! Run!!!

Knives are dangerous, don't you know?

And why every vehicle gets the medium sized screw driver! and claw hammer!
Both just tools, anywhere you go, until you need to implant one into someone!
    Then they are Multipurpose Tools!!

    @MJ1657,

Here's what I use on my blade, with a few drops of oil on the fine side of the stone.

Whether that's right or wrong is for someone more knowledgeable than I to judge, but it seems to work fairly well.

Not something I could say I can shave with, but it's a good edge. Cuts bands and shrink wrap like warm butter. :)

Now how about a paper test? Try slicing a sheet of paper (hold it in the air with one hand, knife in the other) and see if it tears or manages to cut it clean.

My old man had a double wheel grinder at his old house. 1 grinder, 1 sharpener.
My sister got her stepdaughter a pair of ice skates for Christmas one year. I sharpened them til you could cut paper.

She got kicked outta the skating rink the following weekend. Parently you just sposed to have enough edge to catch the ice? Idk I ain't a skater
