My situation likely is different than yours because I am a One Truck Owner Operator and have no employees by choice. When I became an owner operator I left my Union Company job because I wanted to be an owner operator more than I wanted to be a Union Company driver. I spent the next 8 years perfectly happy at the non union carrier where I am leased to for 6 more days. 6 days from now I return to the Teamsters with my truck. I am not returning just so I can say I am a Teamster again. I am returning because the potential of $4,000-$5,000 additional revenue a week. Also the best insurance known to man (I will be paying for it but the revenue pays for it and it’s still worth the cost). If you see my rig with Teamsters stickers on both sides (I am proud to be a Teamster) but don’t think I went back in the union for the stickers. Rest assured I went back because I am going to do what is best for my business and my family regardless if someone despises me for simply being Union. Most feel the same.
I'm union because of the wage and benefits, which are second to none.
Not because I give a rip about "being union" or a teamster.
I do the same job as others but am compensated closer to my worth imho.

At the end of the day it's about how we see best to provide with a balance of tolerance for a companies b.s.

It’s called business. You do what benefits the business and the bottom line the most.

I’m just a single truck hauling construction equipment in the southeast. I don’t see what the teamsters has to offer me. The wife works for the city so I already have good benefits. But, if I could add an additional 40% gross I’d definitely do it.

Yes I will still talk to all my non union friends especially hard workers like you. I really didn’t want to leave my cushy gig, but I can’t pass up this opportunity. If you know experienced Carhaul owner operators in the Midwest looking for a new home, have them message me for the details.

The funny thing is, companies that pay as good or better than being a union member, are routinely bashed by unions. Consider Walmart private fleet, starting salary is now $104K annually, many drivers topping out in the $150's and $160's, and have better benefits and retirements than being a union member. IS the union attacks out of jealousy?

I’m sure. They would love to have the dues. But, that’s why the company pays what they do. There is no benefit for the employees to unionize. And the company doesn’t have to deal with the teamsters.

$200K split is $100K each, that's nothing to brag about. I know a couple of sleeper team UPS drivers as well, one runs Denver to Dallas, yes, as a team they will make $210K, that's $105K individually, that's nothing to brag about.

I seems it's you who will give the finger to those who will do and take your job. If you go on strike, and I step into your job, UPS has to keep me on, and since I'm in a right to work state, I don't have to join the union, so basically, I'll get all your benefits, and it won't cost me a dime.

    It's not hate, it's reality.

There's no ruination being wished, it's called reality, when the day comes that the company can't pay what the union demands (See also NEMF, CF, Nationsway, and others) and close up shop, then what? Where do you go?

50 yrs ago, the unions had a place in creating that standard of living, today, not so much. Go back to my comments of what union leaders are earning vs rank/file, or the growing number of union officials going to prison for embezzlement, corruption, RICO violations, extortion, how with a straight face can you say this is acceptable?

I find it interesting that union supporters will completely ignore this, or turn it into "what about??" so and so CEO and their salary or actions? I brought up before about UFCW 7's strike against Kroger, at the time Socialist Robert Reich attacked the CEO of Kroger for what he earned compared to the average worker, and that he should give up some of his salary. Multiple people at the time pointed out that even if you made the CEO work for free for the next year, and divided his salary amongst every Kroger employee, it would amount to a $.02 cent pay increase.
