I'll start off with some of how NOT to secure a coil-this was a load I re-powered at a wrecker yard when I was with CRST when one of their flease-purchase trucks broke down.
This was my first clue that something might be wrong, all the chains being tied around the aluminum rubrail.
So I pulled the tarp halfway over to fix it and this is what I saw..
It's not super clear, but there are four timbers, each about halfway under the coil. He had four coil racks under the timbers, but only one of them was actually under the coil. You can't see it in these pictures, but the orientation of the chains made it so if one came loose, they would've all been loose.
Thankfully, it was already at the wrecker service, so I didn't have to go anywhere to get it picked up.
I was really hoping to get to see this load in action, each of the things on the ends picks up on corner of an oil rig and "walks" it around.
This isn't a good picture of the freight, but it was some various winches and equipment used to raise and lower broadcast antennas. It was really interesting, they essentially turn the tower into its own crane mast.
Scissor lifts.
Just because this thread needed another picture of a pipe load, this is HDPE, which has walls about 2.5" thick, pretty heavy for a load of plastic pipe.
Finally, here's what happens when you use a Peterbilt with a Detroit in it to haul heavy equipment. #2 wrist pin let loose, windowed both sides of the block. Fortunately, he was already empty, just had to drag the truck out from under the trailer, then back next to the trailer and drag the truck on. It was a little interesting backing up the shoulder of a get-on ramp with the neck hanging off the back of my fifth wheel, but we managed to get it blocked up far enough that it wouldn't drag.
