One other thought we had back in the day !---- The half link problem ----- When you were done tightening down your chains, you would -- SMACK --- the chain with your cheater pipe, just in case a link was caught, cross haired ? and then re tighten
-
Yep I still do that. Im probably not the only one but I crushed my finger with a ratchet binder from a chain skipping a link while I was tightening it. My finger nail is still growing back lol.

We used to get a Friday/Saturday load for early morning drop off , of one 50,000 lb coil of scrap out of Ashland KY ( Armco Steal )( Home town ) Now the steal mill had a set of scales enter/exit , and if you were over 80Th they wouldn't let you leave ! So the mom +pop dispatcher ( Trip lease ) had a SMALL!!!!!!!! gasoline truck that we would take , to be able to get back across the river ( Ironton OH ) and back to our OTR truck. The bridge had a hill in the middle with a cure ! and if you didn't crawl in bull dog gear it would kill the engine. Had to pull it one time were a guy try-ed 2nd. It had to be tarp-ed with all kind of cutting edge's. Then they would give us a 6pack and a map to get around the scales
