I've been lurking for several weeks now as I research changing careers. I live in New England and every spring the back roads get posted. The posted limit is 23,000 lbs and as long as the empty truck is under that weight I would be able to drive to the house.

So my question is, what is the typical empty weight for a truck?

Well a Mack R model and 40 foot 3 pot bulk tanker might be around 25K total empty.

My Century 2001 was around 17,000 and the great dane was 15000 when all in. Total is over 30,000. Call it 32,000.

Your winter is not yet over, you got more snow inbound.

I'm a day cab, and this is my bobtail (no trailer) weight with about 1/2 tank of fuel.

Yea, winter isn't over yet. Talk of 8 to 10 inches this weekend.

Thank you for the responses. There is a local gas station that I might be able to leave the trailer at during the time that roads are posted.

Looking to start CDL class in May with a new career in August.

My 2015 Cascadia with full tanks and empty 53ft reefer is 34,000 to 35,000lbs depending on if it's a newer trailer. The older ones weigh a little more.

I believe the permit is possible. If the cab weight was low enough I didn't want to go through that process.

Right, I am aware of that but thank you for mentioning it.
