if you can hook it to your batteries--go as big as you can afford---it wont hurt to have excess capabilities--but to buy a small one--you might be regretting it later if you want a microwave or toaster oven
soooo it might be cheaper to get a 2500 or bigger

Do you get interference on your CB from the Cobra's? Had a driver tell me that about the only inverters that don't cut into your CB are Tripp Lites, which are a lot more expensive. Of course that could have something to do with the trucks we run. We run Volvos which I'm told are notorious for grounding issues and I would think that could cause interference with your radio.

I have a 2500 watt cobra I installed in my Volvo. It has been flawless. It powers my fridge, microwave, and toaster oven. I bought it brand new off of ebay to my door for $169.

You can cut the interference by installing a GROUND-LOOP ISOLATOR on the negative side of your CB radio hook-up.

My 2500 watt cobra is about 9mo old and the fans just quit. they never did sound quite right, it was always very loud. still works for my tv/dvd bu the microwave will overheat it fast. also my 6mo fridge just died and i'm wondering if the inverter is the cause

Due to some companies not allowing power inverters hard wired to the battery in their tractors, what is the highest wattage plug-in inverter you can use (before the cigarette lighter 12 v. goes blows a fuse and goes 'poof' and you say "uh, I smell smoke"? I will want to brew my coffee in the morning (I am too cheap to buy it every am), so I would like to bring a 4 cup Mr. Coffee maker. BTW, do those 12 volt coffee makers work well? A cooler, crockpot?, electric razor, cell phone, laptop to surf and play my Catholic Nuns Go Wild porn collec...urr..oops, I meant my old John Wayne dvd collection..tee..hee. Hmmm...what else can I not live without if/when I begin living on a truck? lol

    Lets see if I remember,
    Amps * Volts = Watts
    Watts / Volts = Amps

As far as the truck different truck manufactures use different size wires for the power plugs. In my experience the biggest inverter you should plug into these things is a 300 to 400 watt, even then they don't produce the rated wattage ( I am not telling you to wire it to the battery just that that is the best way)
Now look on every thing you will be running at the same time and do the math.

    Buckeye 'bedder Thanks this.

What kind of breaker do we need for a 2500 watt inverter? I was told we need 2-300 amp breakers. Do I get the kind that you can reset or not? And where is the best place to get them? Ive been looking but how do you know if they go with 4 gauge wire?

a member of my family has been running a CPAP machine off of a standard 400 watt inverter for approximately 5-8 years with no problems.
