Next put front end on jacks, check for tight ball joints and might need an alignment.
Adding caster or cross caster can help reduce the steering wheel pressure needed to keep the truck straight. -
Ok I will check that. I spend alot of time on Vermont rt 22a. That road is is pretty bad shape. Does adjusting gearbox last help?
-
Yeah but only if you've got slack problems usually ..
You can put a piece of tape on your steering wheel to get an idea of how much you move the wheel steering correction for slack. -
Slack as in alot of play in the steering? When the truck is running I can grab the steering shaft and trist is side to side. The pitman arm moves exactly with my movements.

Movement of wheel before steering effect
You might just have a worn PS pump.... Unless one of the new ball joints is bad.... Would be good to put it up on jacks and check everything for slack. -
This pump has 400k miles on it now. Sometimes while doing intense backing the steering would get stiff and the wheel would kick back at me.
-
Inspect the p s pump suction line for colapsing under the braket and generate to much restriction for the pump. Ben
