1999 century was the first I seen it happen on. Driver came in with a blow line. Company truck when I was a full time wrench. Changed line, filter, and fluid. Backed out across the lot and it let go. So hot I burnt my hand touching it in 3 minutes of use. Freightliner had no idea. Studs were corroded. Didnt even weld them all the way. We didnt either. Went up 2 inches and drilled a hole. At battery and starter. Never changed another line except for age. They put the studs in the heat treated area of frame. Didnt drill threw because of it. And didnt weld it 100%.

You could clamp jumper cable on cables and the to a good ground, like neg post to test. Never guess they would F this up again but history does repeat its self.

Engine sits in rubber, and hoses are non conductive. I know you work on equipment that I have no experience with. But electricity is a lazy SOB. It's like water. Least path of resistance.

Its just not something you're likely to come across often. Definitely not one of the first things I'd suspect anyways.

Not sure if your trying to be a smart ### or your just an ####### on a regular basis but if you read the other comment I stated that I never even thought of that implying that it could be the problem. But in case your wondering I figured out my own problem. The pressure relief valve inside the steering box was not opening enough creating excess heat in the system. Now it’s not opening at all, therefore not allowing any oil to circulate through system. Thanks for your reply I’ll remember in the future to take nothing you say serious! Have a good day!

Your right. Most people under rate a 12 volt dc system. It's possible for 4000 amps.

Had the same problem and it ended up being the gearbox as well.
