The CB man told me that all radios that have been peaked and tuned are illegal. I hope they never enforce it.

No matter what you get or do to a CB, any competent radio tech will tell you that the coax cable and the antenna will give you more bang for the buck than anything else.

You can have a relatively cheap CB unit but if you match it to very high quality coax and antenna, it will do an excellent job. I have run a stock Cobra 25 for many years but I have more invested in coax and antenna than the radio and I have no problem reaching out. The reception is much clearer. Of course, an amp will help, but if you don't have a good coax/antenna combo and have it tuned correctly, you are just pumping power and not really getting the results you want.

In my experience, OEM coax that is in most trucks really is inadequate. It is cheap crap that just gets by. There is no substitute for installing excellent heavy guage shielded coax.

I am not against anyone getting a top quality radio or an amp, but if you want it to perform as it should, you have to get good coax and antenna. No other way around that problem.

Thanks Marine gun Doctor, You covered much territory I don't understand, think I will print it out and take it with me when I purchase the upgrade items, since the ham tests have now eliminated the morse code I have started to study for the tests and can at least be legal.
