Well then I guess you have a company that fits your needs. Although I'm not sure how you come up with the figure of 120 hours paid for 1 week? According to your figures, you are stating that you work about 17 hours a day for 7 days in a row? If so, you're a better man than I am. I'll just stick to my 10 hours worked per day and sleep in my own house every night. My hat is off to you!

I never said I worked all those hours... I said I average $14.55 per hour for all hours I'm away from home minus 8 hours per night.

I'm paid by the mile, and do OTR... I simply took my average weekly pay and figured out how much that would be on a per hour basis for ALL hours I'm away from home minus 8 hours per night for sleeping.

If you want to figure what I make per hour for the time I'm actually working... it comes out to a minimum of $24.94 per hour (assuming I use all 70 of my on duty hours, which I rarely do). Does that number seem a little more in line with what you consider adiquit?

If you can find a long haul otr trucking company that will agree to pay you hourly AND pay you for 16 hours per day, Reguardless of how many hours you drive/work on any given day... Let me know.

You already know the answer to that. Good OTR don't really exist.

Believe me, I would love to find an OTR company that pays by the hour. Sadly, they don't exist.

This comes from a US regulation (not FMCSA) that states an employer paying for travel time is not required to pay for 8 hours out of every 24 that is used for sleeping... Hence the maximum hours a day that an employer is required to pay is 16 if the employee is sleeping or off duty at least 8 hours in every 24. No I cant remember the statute but it is in a labor law that talks about pay for compensable time, and what exactly compensable time is.

This is good info. I thought it was only my company that paid 85-90% of miles driven. But it seems more honest to just pay me 4 cents less a mile and pay me for what I drive. Seems like a backhanded way to do things. Like hiring someone for $20 per hour to paint a house but tell them they need to work one hour every day for free. Or going to buy a dozen donuts, pay for them and get 11. The baker tells you, oh we don’t really count the donuts, we just put a practical amount in

PC practical is going to be very close if you try to stick to the route, so is short miles but it will on some trips take longer. Most of the time there is not much difference between the two.
With todays follow the gps drivers, no way would I pay hub miles.
I always went by practical miles and the brokers and shippers I used did too. I rarely hauled any short loads, but most loads were within in 10 miles or so of my odometer.

So if I’m being paid 1700 on 1900 or 600 on 700 etc regularly. If I like everything else about DHT for the most part, do I just accept that? It’s common enough in the industry? I do push back on every load that is more than a 10% difference. They did meet me in the middle once. But I’m a new guy to driving. I suppose my thought it “if it’s not done in any place else in the world under the pretext of being an honest company, should I be shocked to see it done so blatantly in OTR”

Piecemeal pay is a scam. Too much unpaid time. If it doesn't pay by the hour, forget it.
