When people are talking about "all the downtime" in an emissions truck vs getting a glider. At the end of the day your cost per mile is still higher with a glider.

And don't get me wrong. Would have loved a glider. Just seemed this discussion was based on money.

Ok, you are talking about a used truck with emissions crap on it vs a new glider.

New emissions junk vs glider , theres NO way your cpm is more with a glider.

The only way Id even consider buying a used 07+ would be to do DPF delete & corresponding upgrades, that being said, youd probably still be better off finding a good pre 04.

As far as down time, I havent seen, talked to or heard of too many 04+ ( ESPECIALLY 07,10+) owners that arent experiencing tons of downtime due to these faulty and problematic systems. Buying a used 07+ is a crapshoot at best

If I buy a newer truck I would definitely do the egr, dpf, scr deletes.

I'm actually with bill on this, if you buy say an '08 Pete 389 for $70k and spend $5k on the deletes it would still be a ton cheaper than spending $120-140k on a 389 glider. Granted the glider would be brand new, but everyone has to do what fits their needs physically, financially, and emotionally (the feeling of buying what YOU really want).

Do you idle a lot or do you have an apu?

Taste of reality, the new trucks are in the shop more than ever. The cow whizz trucks have more issues than Jim Baker, that is not my opinion but actual facts from dealers and shops.

Please show me where the cost of a glider is more expensive.

up until 6 months ago i did idle allot, but not much now since i read a thread here somewhere that idling allot was bad for the engine, so now if i do idle i bump up the RPM's to about 8-900 so the the oil pressure rises and the coolant flows faster therefore the engine stays cooler or so iv'e heard

Yeah, I ask because its been discussed before that a lot of the people who are having the issues with the emissions equipment idle a lot and don't have apu's. Then the guys with apu's didn't have many problems.
