So I’m in the process of getting my DOT authority crap sorted out so I can start trucking for myself. My question is about the drug testing BS. The company I’ve been with 5 years does random drug tests of course since it’s a trucking company. I read that a “pre-employment” test isn’t required for someone who’s been on a random testing program for the last 12 months. Anyone know for sure? It’s pretty silly that I have to pre-employment drug test myself for my single driver company. Then again we are regulated by the U.S. government, so stupid #### is the norm.

Google is your friend. OK, not really, probably the Beast of Revelation, but they can be useful at times.
Are Owner-Operators that operate commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) on the public roads that require a
Hope that helped.Dan.S Thanks this. -
I understand I have to be in a consortium. I’m talking about only the pre-employment test that they say is required. If you’re already part of a random drug testing pool, and jump directly into the O/O thing do I need to do the pre-employment test for myself?

Ah, gotcha. No clue Driver. Have you joined the consortium yet? My guess is that as soon as you do you will be tested.Dan.S Thanks this.

I have not yet, still looking for one. Only one local place that I know of does drug testing, and they’re not so pleasant to work with.

I'm not going to answer your question I'm actually going to give you a more confusing question.
If you are an employee of a carrier and you are in the drug testing pool. You cannot be in charge of the drug testing program. After all you know when testing is going to be etcetera. However isn't one man operation you are in control of the drug testing program as well as in the pool.
Gotta love it.
And no, you do not need to give yourself a pre-employment drug test. You do have to give yourself a random as well as post-accident and make sure you keep up with all the record-keeping.Gumper Thanks this. -
Actually no. That's why O/O's join a consortium to do the randoms. The consortium is the one who is in charge of all when the random is pulled and taken. Now, of course, the O/O should be able to ignore the call if he knows who it's from. Dyunno how that will work out....whoopNride Thanks this.

Correct. Sorry if I wasn't clear.

I’m not too thrilled over it. Most guys say if your name gets pulled you have to report to the drug center within two hours. Yeah right, if I’m on the road with a load that has to be to point B at a certain time I’m not dragging my truck and trailer through some random town to find the closest regulated cup to piss in.
