Im a recovering addict. Been clean 2 months and best dicision I ever made. That being said, I just got my CDL. Im staying away from the companies that screen hair follicles. Any companies that only do urinalysis for pre hire at orientation for a rookie? Thanks in advance.

I'd wait at least 6 months, if you show dirty, you'll be done for at least 5 years.

DO NOT tell any potential employer that you are a recovering addict. It is none of their business and they will see you as a liability and send you home. There is temptation on the road and you need to stay on top of your recovery. Recovery always comes first because without it, youve got nothing. Feel free to PM me, and ill give you my email and phone number, if you need someone to talk to. I've got 2376 days clean and serene myself.

I don't know which companies do hair folicle, but remember, your sobriety is none of their business as long as you're staying clean. Stay strong one day at a time, and good luck. Please contact me if you need to talk.

Yea, I'd wait until you're fully recovered (if there's a such thing).
Jobs that require a CDL aren't forgiving at all, when it comes to "drugs".

    Don't ask, don't tell.
Put your location on your profile and maybe can get more responses; city/state or nearest city in your state, if you don't want to identify the exact town.

I have a brother who is a recovering addict... so I am just gonna be straight and up front with you..

The first year of recovery is tough and stressful... the first year of driving is also streefull.. hell, I am not an addict or alcoholic... but, there have been days out here that made me want drink and smoke a joint just to fall asleep ... but, fortunately, I am not an alcoholic or addict so I just go take a long hot shower and wash away the stress...

Idontt know if you are utilizing a 12 step program to help you in your recovery.. if so, understand that it will be difficult if not next to impossible for you to get to a meeting... I know when my brother was in his first years of recovery, when he had a stressfuld day he needed to get to a meeting cause he felt like falling back into old habits.. he felt like using..
You will more than likely not be able to get to a meeting... the sad and honest truth, it will be far easier for you to get drugs and alchol out here than get to a meeting...

Now, there are recovering addicts and recovering alcoholics out here.. but again, it is not the easiest place or career to find recovery... or maintain it...

I think it is great for yourself and your family that you are recovering.. it is not an easy thing to do.. I saw my brother go through it.. he is now 13 cleans and I am proud of him... I wish you luck in your recovery.. it is a long tough road to travel.. but, a worthwhile road...

The only company that I ever had take my hair was Transport America. So you can rule that one out.

Most of the starter companies cannot afford to be too picky so they only do the very minimum. They also pay the very minimum. As you move up, the standards also move up. Good luck, stay clean and welcome to trucking.
