I went into werner thinking positive telling everyone its a good company. Until they decline me of my benefits. I supposedly was showed a video and went over the paper i signed in Orientation that stated i would turn my insurance papers in within 30 days.

Infact i got everything filled out and handed the teacher everything and he handed me back the insurance paper and said i dont need this. Turn it in later.
I went and did the 2 months with a trainer on a Dollar general account.

Let me tell ya, its ok money but the most Dollar general mangers are lazy, they are suppose to help but never do. You also need to always be on you FMs ###. You can request your hometime, even after they approve it they will put a load on you. O ya and the day you scheduled to get home, they always put a LONG run on you about 2 days.

I dont have the patience to deal with there crap anymore Werners and Dollar General.

I assume that maybe 1/10 drivers squeeze by and keep their jobs in this company. They hire everyone and anyone but they truly only intend to keep a few for the long haul.

At least you used the correct word. Everything posted on here so far has been assumptions. Some is shared experience, but it's all one sided. They wouldn't be in business and as large as they are with that kind of model. Think about it, if you are constantly hiring/firing that many drivers you will eventually fail your customers needs. Not to mention the recruiting costs.

I haven't seen a post where someone takes some ownership for the actions that lead to their termination. To be fair, I haven't read very many posts about how Werner screwed someone. I just think it would be refreshing to have a post like, man I screwed up. I can't believe I ran that stop sign. What was I thinking?!?! Then on my road test I really mashed those brakes, crap!!! Wish I hadn't done that.

HaHa some have a hard time with accountability. As I stated somewhere before its impossbile to know of a good company on here because not many post positives or take a neutral position. I know we all mistakes and I dont know what the rules at Werner and what their business model looks like but they have must have something up their sleves and a method to their madness

Its not going anywhere and I would but I have already been surplused which means I lost my current position due to budget cuts. If I am lucky enough to get hired back it will be at a nightmare school. Its a bummer after all I have put into it

that sucks, when things turn around and vegas starts booming again i'd get out of the truck and back into the classroom. Nightmare school or not it could be better than a truck. But on the other hand if you love it, live it.

What gets me more frustrated than this Werner scam is the erosion of good paying jobs for middle class workers. The government has allowed corporations tax breaks to send production and good paying IT jobs overseas. Unions are under attack (NJEA which I belong to) is vilified by our governer Christy.Bargaining rights are taken away as in Wisconson, Union retail jobs in my area have been decimated (all part time no benies now) The good jobs that I had Ford Motors, Sandoz Chemicals, had when I was 20 are gone down south or overseas.I don't see my 3 sons having the same opportunities for success that I achieved. I tryed to get them into the Board of Ed,support staff Union but the administation is eliminating all fulltimers and using part time subs at half the pay with no benies. The son that just got canned from Werner was making 21.60 an hour as support staff w/ BOE, when our governer cut 4 MIL from our towns school budget eliminating his job. So he went to CDL school, got a driver job at our local lumber yard $14 per hour and after 2 months was let go because business was slow(last hired first fired) Next job is his werner fiasco;this kid just can't get a break. And it's not just happening to him;his twin got his CDL was driving for a beer distributer,a few days before he was going to be hired fulltime (join the union and get benefits) he was let go due to cutbacks (last hired first fired) he's currently unemployed.
Newsflash this economy sucks and I don't see it getting better anytime soon if ever. All the good blue collar middle class jobs are either gone or going soon thanks to our government giving in to big business lobbyists and their $ . And who do we have lobbying for us and our kids? You guessed it nobody.End of rant.

They have a core group of long term drivers. My son was trained first by Chris from Or. who had 6 years under his belt;then Don from Tx who I think is collecting SS while still driving for Werner. My point is they have plenty of drivers for their fleet;they have no need for those 700-1000 recruits brought in per week. Those recruits provide Werner with tax breaks and are used as low paid team drivers so Werner can move freight cheaply. Those 700-1000 are expendable and will be let go to make room for the 700-1000 coming the following week and the 700-1000 the next week.Did my son screw up yes ,it only became a firable offence because they have to make room for the 700-1000 per week coming into the blue screw.Yesterday my son was filling out an application with a small company (50 trucks) they don't have the onboard computer recording your every move and a team of safety expert analising driver data. One person does everything related to safety and she's a young girl who started 9 months ago. He can test drive today with their mechanic who doubles as their new driver tester;they will probably hire him but he's also applying for a local construction co where he would be home every night; they pay drivers $20 per hour with OT. If he gets that job and they put him on a prevailing wage job he will make more in one day then he made in a week with Werner.
