If you're not going to PAY a driving school to get a CDL, then don't worry about the "prehire" letters. Its something that comes with going on that track. There are plenty of folks who have problems in their background, MVR/ticket/accident problems or medical problems that get invited to orientation - that's a more thorough screening than what comes with the internet/phone application process. Many are just hoping they can conceal their past and get a job - doesn't work. Don't conceal anything - be up front, and if you pass the medical you're in.
-
Might I add one small thing if you go cor orientation.... DON'T BE LATE FOR ANYTHING. Lost several people cause they were late in my class. If you're late for a class when you're right there, they figure you'll do the same out here. Also, be professional. The entire time your in training you're being interviewed, make a good impression

Might be starting my training with Prime soon. I love that just about every truck has an APU in it. As a company driver will they force you in to driving a lightweight or do you have the option of lightweight or regular sized?
mje Thanks this. -
That's going to depend on your division. Flatbed doesn't use lightweights. If you're going reefer lightweights running ECO49, then there's an incentive bonus of (I believe) .05 per mile.
Lightweights aren't necessarily a bad thing. They do have their pros/cons though.mje Thanks this. -
Thanks I will be going reefer. What is ECO49? The lightweights just seemed so cramped that's the main thing I'm worried about. They are putting APU's them at least now right?mje Thanks this.

Basically what it sounds like. Ya, the trucks are smaller and the ECO49 vans I believe are designed to be more "environmentally friendly" (insert eco-terrorist comment here)
Maybe someone who pulls an ECO49 can elaborate further?mje Thanks this. -
Does the 49 refer to a 49' trailer length or are they still 53s?
mje Thanks this. -
53' reefer trailer (we don't do "vans") that you can put 49,000 lbs in - if you're pulling it with a Cutie.
