I start training at Schneider tomorrow and I can't seem to shake the feeling of nervousness, especially since this is my first gig and there's a lot riding on this job. Any advice?

    Best regards, John

Anything worth doing always comes with jitters. It’s natural. You’ll get there and be just fine.

Open mind, keep your mouth shut unless asked a question directly (you don't want to be "that guy"), follow policy and procedure to a "T" (on and off premises), study the book, always try to find your Zen spot, take deep breaths often remembering that others in your class probably are feeling some of the same emotions as you and don't ever give up just because you're feeling frustrated.

Exactly. Sometimes, our minds are our own worst enemy. Every scary, bad thing you’re thinking right now.....AIN’T gunna happen.

Millions of guy less careful, dumber, less skilled, with more riding on this decision have successfully done what you are about to do.

When you are driving with trainer and you stall in traffic or you are looking for a delivery address IGNORE the cars behind you. They can wait. Most are in a hurry to go read their smartphone. Better to go slow enough so you don't accidentally drive past a driveway or street you wanted than drive fast enough to make cars happy (impossible) and have to u-turn or backup in traffic. Cars are the enemy. Making them wait 0.05 seconds is a benefit of the job. They will try to kill you and them 50 times a day. Making them wait is NOTHING to avoid.

The more conscientious you are the more jitters you may feel. I still get nervous looking for customers decades later. It's just something that happens and then passes as you complete the task.

NOTHING makes driver meetings longer than every driver taking time to tell their story related to what the meeting leader just mentioned. We all spend a lot of time alone and many practice telling that story over and over. We all have that same story. "Do you want to get this over today or stay hours later so EVERYONE can give their favorite example?"
