Hopefully they can disable that garbage with a laptop. Really brilliant when you come to a hill and you start digging in and then it decides to re-engage automatically while you're spinning![]()
Pre trip inspection for bobtail?

I don't think this is a dumb question. I almost always drive my truck bob tail about 30 minutes from my home to the yard (where I park my trailer) on 'Personal Conveyance'. And the way I read it, that's legal. But if I went 'On Duty' first to do a pre-trip, that would start my clock for the day and defeat the whole purpose. As well, I'm supposed to pre-trip the truck at home, then not have to do it again when I hook the trailer? Or do it twice?
In reality, I sometimes actually do a more serious pre-trip at home where I have access to more tools, fluids etc., and a more comfortable environment to work in. But if I feel like waiting until after I've hooked the trailer at the yard before doing one - to whatever level that may involve for the day - that's the way it's going to be. And if I'm ever grilled by the DOT about it and they have an issue, well...tough.Last edited: Oct 20, 2022
Kimia2005 Thanks this. -
I have 20 min drive to parking for hook trailer my question is : before connect the trailer i have to do pre trip for bob tail or after connect to trailer do pretrip for truck and trailer together

I'd pre-trip at home, then when I hook onto a trailer I'd do the trailer then get going. No reason to do the truck twice.
MartinFromBC Thanks this.
