pre trip inspection test

    Apex CDL institute puts out a really good pre trip guide and breaks it down in sections on how he goes about it in a organized method. Look the video up or check around on this site. I know its been brought up before.

    I used that video guide as well as my own method of remembering things. Worked out well. In my class one student out of every truck has to do a full inspection. (In cab, coupling system then form ABC) then the others in the truck just get the in cab, coupling system and one of the 3 forms.

    I was one of the unfortunate ones that got the whole truck. Only missed one though. Realized it when I was in the middle of form B. Missed talking about how the air/electrical lines needed to be suspended off the catwalk. I didn't sweat it though as there were other students who tested and not well prepared. They just didn't go into detail which we we're told would cost us points.

    Anything rubber is cuts, bumps, abrasions, secure at both ends, not leaking air, oil.
    Anything steel is not bent, cracked, broken, securely mounted, free from illegal welds.
    Remember your tolerances, tread, belts, brake pad material, slack adjuster tolerance etc etc.

    Yeah for hoses i wouldn't say properly mounted in the first place. Just no abrasions, cuts, or bulges, not leaking and secure at both ends. Not losing any sleep just preparing ahead time. I'm very mechanically inclined actually the pretrip is the least of my worries.

    Yes i want to start at Roehl thank you for the information.

    Their is still a lot of variation in the Pre-trip between states and testers.

    Remember, as a general rule, most of the test is given out by pencil pushers not truck drivers or mechanics. They are looking for you to hit certain points and descriptions. As such all hoses will have no-

    Leaks, Cuts, Cracks, Tape, Spice, Crimp, or Rubs. And, as always will be secure.

    It sounds stupid many testers are counting the approved adjectives used for each parts description.

    I realize this is an old post but...how do you know this? Is it just "My instructor/buddy/... told me" or is there some official standard?
