Pre-Trip is not as hard as it seems at first. In fact, it is the easiest part of the test. Just look at the tractor/trailer, remember the parts. Check the images below and find those parts on the CV and memorize them.. you will pass with flying colors. (This is the actual format used by DPS here in Texas. Your's would be somewhat similar too.)

This is a good video but it has too much information.. you don't need to explain that much in the actual test. Just look at the images I attached above and get the most you can from this video and you are all set for the pre-trip.

Google : Free CDL Practice Tests Florida
Memorize word for word. Don't worry, Florida is the easiest state to get the CDL. Their DMV uses common sense and doesn't try to intimidate everyone that walks through the door. Many of Florida cdl school test on site vs. going to a state DMV office.

Note cards is all you need. Short answers that get right to the point. Passed it no problem.

Touch every part on the truck. If it is metal, you say "it is not cracked, dented or bent" if it contains any air or liquid it "is not leaking" hoses and wires aren't "cut frayed or bulging"

Thats what I was told. Mine was straight truck though. And if it's not part of it, who cares? Better safe than sorry.

I'm in cdl school right now and this is how I did it. Every day learn 10 items in the pretrip so that you can recite them without a cheat sheet (helps if you have someone to look at the cheat sheet while you recite it to them). Then the next day learn 10 more and then recite those with the 10 you learned the day before (start at the beginning). Keep doing that everyday and build upon what you learned the previous days always starting at the beginning once you learn the next 10. I was able to memorize everything and recite them without the cheat sheets in about 10 days. I can now get through the pretrip in about 20 mins without missing anything. Good luck and I hope this helps.

What better way to describe getting marked for not checking shocks when the truck doesn't even have them.
