I disagree, I didn't memorize anything either but that stupid test would have been a LOT easier if I would have. I forgot more about trucks at the age of 19 than that examiner knew but she still darn near failed me. If I would have just memorized the list I would have passed with flying colors, the whole thing is a joke they just want you to regurgitate information.

I'm curious does your school administer the test? Memorizing 10 things a day is a good way to do it. I've said for a long time if I'm ever independently wealthy I'm going to CDL school.

No we go to a third party testing facility. That's part of the reason I selected the school I'm attending, heard to many bad things about CDL farms where they administer the test and make sure everyone passes. I wanted to make sure I was ready before hitting tge road.

And, you don't have to be independently wealthy to attend a private school. Trust me, my family is nowhere near that. By the time you figure in the tax credit I'll get for tuition, mileage deductions for employment training and the the reimbursement from my employer, and a much better job prospect, it's going to be a very smart investment. I wanted to have a say in where I started my career in trucking and didn't want to have to sign a contract with a mega in order to get training through them.

That's good on the testing I guess, everyone should have to test with the state.

I've been driving truck for 20 years (legally) the reason I said if I was wealthy is so I could quit my job and just go to school. I would love to sit in there and listen to those instructors just to hear what they have to say. I think before you get your CDL you should have to know how to change brakes, wire a new light plug, change a fuel filter in a rest area with limited tools, fix and air to air clamp with a piece of wire, cage a brake, and several other things besides regurgitate information. I could really screw with an instructor, remember those who can do, those who can't teach.

For the record I'm not bashing you everyone has to start somewhere just make it your mission to be better than the average bear.

Don't forget zip tying a power steering pump reservoir in place since you lost your power steering, having it hold it up until you can find a replacement bolt at the local parts store before they close. Gotta make do, them cows I was picking up needed to get to Arkansas. Or a screwdriver and a hammer in place of a fuel filter wrench in a tight spot and a can of ether in the intake to get that 12.7 started. I could go on for days.

An extra belt and a hammer handle work on a fuel filter, needle nose vice grips to pinch off an airline. I could go on too.

question, why do you need to memorize anything when all the things you check are right there in front of you. or do they want it done in order? they just make it more complicated than it is, kinda like high school lol

You need to memorize what it is you are looking for with each part.
