If you drove off road in the mountains HH you would check your truck out a considerable amount. Nothing like having your front suspension break because you didn't check it closely. And over the 100 ft cliff you go.

Problem is, one starts to run into HOS issues at the end of the clock after a totally full day.

Yeah it's pretty hard to see things when your trucks covered in whatever.

Some don't do one at all. I hit a moose 2 years ago. Parked truck in lineup. Mr Bigrigger jumped in and head 400 miles north not realizing front corner of hood and headlight assembly missing

Our drivers say it varies. They do the inspection and log it. Typically I see around 15 minutes. When I asked our lead driver about pre-trips he laid it all out for me. "If for ANY reason I am in an accident and it is something that was already checked during my pre-trip, then I have covered my ###. If I do not log a pre-trip and I do not perform a pre-trip, then I am 100% liable for whatever happens."

First time in a truck it is a fine tooth comb taking as long as it takes to feel completely satisfied flying past them 100 foot drops off bridges, then from then on it is always looking, every time around the truck with a rag to clean the lenses of all lights and reflective tapes, every time fueling hood is opened so I can wash the windshield completely with no streaks. Next they will be sticking tattle tales on our bodies to record all the time we take looking and logging it. screwballs!
