Hypothetically speaking say you had a 1998 cat in a 2016 truck. Would you need eld?

You do not need ELD with a pre2000 motor. 2018? Was the last year you could order a glider, but you can still do one yourself. It will have a reconstructed title when you’re done though.

Nothing hypothetical about that at all....plenty of gliders are made with pre 2000 engines. Mine is a 2016 with a 1996 engine. I know a guys who takes newer Cascadias and Kenworths and puts Detroit 12.7's in them and sells them.

There's a bunch of guys out there with 2018's or whatever year post '99 with nothing more than a fraudulent EPA engine plate or sticker proclaiming the engine is a 1999. The DOT does not care. They're probably more common than the hordes of foreigners with fraudulent CDL's. A non-glider 2016 truck with a real 1998 motor would be A-ok for paper logs it won't raise eyebrows. The only people that would be bothered or concerned about it post in this forum.
